MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Millersville stepped away from PSAC East divisional play to take on Mercyhurst in a non-conference match-up Friday at McComsey Tennis Courts. The visiting Lakers won 5-2 by nearly sweeping the singles matches.
Millersville's overall record dropped to 2-3 while Mercyhurst improved to 4-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Millersville's top doubles team of
Julie Wallace and
Noelle Htwar won for the fourth time in five matches, scoring a 6-1 win over Ivona Plecevic and Athina Tsagkaraki.
Jasmine Morris and
Kelsey Heckert teamed for a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the match's first point for the Marauders.
• Aside from a default win for
Joanna Newton at No. 6 singles, Mercyhurst swept the singles matches, but two were decided in three sets. Morris pushed Plecevic to three before falling, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Htwar topped Valentine Budin 6-4 in the first, but Budin won 6-2, 6-0 in the next two for the point.

• Millersville's doubles teams are a combined 9-5 on the season.
