ABOUT THE SERIES

  • Millersville enters the final two weekends and last eight games of the regular season needing to make up ground to reach the PSAC Tournament. At 11-13 in PSAC East play, the Marauders are three games back of East Stroudsburg and two-and-a-half games behind Shippensburg. ESU has Lock Haven and first-place Shepherd left to play. Shippensburg has last-place Mansfield and West Chester on its schedule while Millersville has Mansfield and Bloomsburg for its final eight games.
  • Millersville has split all five of its Friday-Saturday four-game series, winning the series' first two games four times. Millersville is 11-7 at home and 7-3 on Friday home games against divisional opponents.
  • Millersville has become a modern day offensive club as it ranks sixth in the 18-team PSAC in runs scored but 15th in batting average. The Marauders score by getting on base and hitting home runs. They've drawn a league-leading 130 walks and been hit by a league-high 34 pitches, and bring those runners home with a league-best 57 homers. Millersville has already eclipsed its single-season team record for home runs by 12 and is on track to top the record for slugging percentage with its .509 mark. Millersville's 57 home runs ranks ninth in PSAC history.
  • Faith Willenbrock is certainly a contender for PSAC East Athlete of the Year as she ranks third in the league in average (.476), second in slugging percentage (1.087), tied for first in hits (49) and home runs (17), third in RBIs (37), fourth in OBP (.530) and third in runs (34). She's hit 13 of those homers and hit .474 against PSAC East opponents. She is currently tied for second nationally in homers per game and is fourth nationally in slugging percentage. As a team, Millersville is second in the nation in home runs per game.
  • Alyssa Stover has been among the team's hottest hitters of late, going 6-for-14 with at least one hit in five of her last six games. She's also driven in four runs in that stretch.
  • In the circle, Morgan Crutcher has lowered her team-best ERA to 3.98. In her last five outings spanning 25 innings, she's allowed just six earned runs.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Prior to the 2020 canceled season, Bloomsburg had made the postseason every year dating back to 1982. Susan Kocher is in her 11th season as head coach and has continued that streak. The Huskies, however, are in danger of that streak ending as they currently sit at 9-15 in the PSAC East but are coming off of a four-game sweep of Mansfield. The Huskies are 4-8 away from home.
  • Bloomsburg boasts a strong offensive lineup with a team batting average of .313 and team on base percentage of .372. The team ranks seventh in the league in batting average, but 10th out of 18 teams in runs scored. Sammi Star ranks ninth in the league in hitting with a .433 average.
  • Bloomsburg's top pitcher Tara Baney has performed better than her 4-8 record suggests. She owns a 3.01 ERA and eight complete games with 79 innings pitched. She's allowed 32 unearned runs this season while allowing two or fewer earned runs in 10 of her appearances.
"There's a lot riding on this series but we are going to compete pitch-by-pitch, stay present, focus on winning each inning and not make this series or game situations bigger than they are."
Jen Probst, Millersville Head Coach

SERIES HISTORY

  • Friday marks the 109th and 110th meetings between Millersville and Bloomsburg. For the majority of that history, Bloomsburg dominated the series. But since 2015, the series has been more competitive with Bloomsburg holding a slight 7-4 advantage. Millersville swept a doubleheader by scores of 14-2 and 5-2 in 2018. Willenbrock and Rebecca Blatt both hit homers in the series. The last meetings came at Millersville in 2019, when Bloomsburg swept a doubleheader by scores of 9-0 and 4-2.
  • Since 2010, Millersville has been held to one run or fewer in 11 of the 19 meetings. Over that same stretch, Millersville has had more success at Bloomsburg (4-4) than at home (1-9).
