Millersville drops doubleheader to split series with West Chester

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Millersville softball team was back in action Saturday afternoon against West Chester at Seaber Softball Field. The Marauders looked to win the series against West Chester, but the Golden Rams took the final two games over Millersville by scores of 6-4 and 9-4. 

West Chester improved to 16-8, 12-8 PSAC East with Saturday's wins, putting Millersville's record to 17-13, 11-13 PSAC East.

GAME ONE (WEST CHESTER 6, MILLERSVILLE 4)
• The Golden Rams were first on the scoreboard with a single up the middle from Courtney Stump. The Marauders answered back in the bottom of the first with Faith Willenbrock reaching first from a fielding error, bringing Devan Masciulli home to even the game, 1-1.
• Two more runs were tacked on by the Golden Rams in the fifth. Alyssa Stover singled to left field to bring the score to 3-2. Gabby D'Ottavio entered the game and smashed the first pitch to left center for a home run, helping the Marauders tie the game at the bottom of the sixth, 3-3.
• Stump broke the tie with a home run in the top of the seventh and gave West Chester back the lead. Willenbrock homered in the bottom of the seventh, making the final score 6-4, but the Marauders could get no closer.
Morgan Crutcher and Alex Schaefer pitched game one for the Marauders. Crutcher totaled five strikeouts. 

GAME TWO ( WEST CHESTER 9, MILLERSVILLE 4)
• West Chester jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first four innings. Aleese Angelo hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to put the Marauders on the board.
• Also in the fourth, Stover's single to center field brought in two more runs for the Marauders, but West Chester still held a 7-4 lead.
• Two more runs were added on by the Golden Rams in the seventh with a homer from Haleigh Karcher, and Millersville went scoreless in the last three innings bringing the final score to 9-4.

NOTES
• Millersville has split five series this season, all of which being with PSAC East teams. 
• Willenbrock hit her 17th home run of the season, bumping her career total up to 45.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders travel to IUP on Monday, April 19 for a doubleheader against the Crimson Hawks. The first pitch is at 2:30 p.m.
