Willenbrock's four hits help Marauders split with IUP

INDIANA, Pa. - Millersville University senior Faith Willenbrock matched a career-high with four hits and drove in a season-high three runs in the Marauders' 8-7 game two win over Indiana (Pa.) Monday afternoon. The win helped the Marauders salvage a split after dropping game one by an 8-0 score.

Game two was quite a bounce back performance for the Marauders (18-14), who managed just one hit in the game one loss. That hit also came from Willenbrock, giving her five hits in seven at bats during the doubleheader.

GAME ONE (IUP 8, MILLERSVILLE 0)
• IUP's Hope Jones (6-4) kept Millersville's bats in check in five innings, allowing just five baserunners, four of which came via walk. The start to the game was promising when Devan Masciulli and Rebecca Blatt led off the top of the first with back-to-back walks, but Millersville could not advance the runners. Willenbrock's hit--a triple--came in the fourth. After her hit, Gabi Turner drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out, but Jones immediately struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
• Millersville starter Morgan Crutcher went four innings and while she gave up five runs, just one was earned. Millersville committed four errors in the game, including two in the first that opened the door to a three-run IUP inning. An error in the third allowed two more runs to cross. IUP ended the game in the fifth with three doubles in the inning.

GAME TWO ( MILLERSVILLE 8, IUP 7)
• The top of Millersville's lineup delivered in the nightcap. Masciulli and Blatt both had two hits and scored two runs. No. 3 hitter Aleese Angelo drove in the game's first run, and Willenbrock went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Turner, the clean-up hitter, drove in two.
• Millersville struck for three runs in the top of the first and added four more in the second to build a 7-0 lead. IUP pushed four runs across in its half of the second on a Renee Wall grand slam, but Millersville's lead was safe. Willenbrock extended the lead back to three runs in the sixth with an RBI single. Margret Russo hit a two-run shot for IUP in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 8-7, and the Crimson Hawks made things nervous for the Marauders in the seventh. After Millersville left the bases loaded in the top of the inning, IUP put runners on base with a walk and an error and moved both into scoring position with two outs. Crutcher, who entered the game in relief, managed to strand both runners and preserve the win for Millersville by getting Alyssa Cappa to fly out.

NOTES
• Crutcher earned her second save of the season in game two.
• Willenbrock has had at least one four-hit game in three of her four seasons. The lone exception being 2020 when she played just four games.

UP NEXT
• Millersville has eight games remaining on its regular season schedule--four against Bloomsburg and four against Mansfield. The Marauders host Bloomsburg at Seaber Stadium on April 23.
