Millersville loses early lead, falls to No. 5 West Chester

 
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team led by as many as two early in the first half, but a series of 14 unanswered goals by No. 5 West Chester through the remainder of play gave the Golden Rams the 20-5 victory.
 
The Marauders fall to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play while West Chester improves to 2-0 overall and in the PSAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Genevieve Speights was quick to tie up the game, 1-1, just under three minutes into the first half. Zimmerman followed suit capitalizing on a pass from Speights for the 2-1 lead, followed by an unassisted goal from Grace Cobaugh to give the Marauders a two-point advantage. The Golden Rams brought it within a single point again, but a free position goal from Isabella Gandolph kept the Marauders ahead 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Nine goals through the rest of the first half by West Chester and one by the Marauders put the Golden Rams in the lead, 10-5 going into in the second half. West Chester scored 10 unanswered goals in the second half, defeating Millersville 20-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Speights, Zimmerman, Cobaugh, Gandolph, and Callie Swegon each scored a goal for the Marauders.
  • Speights scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
  • Cobaugh and Zimmerman fired off the most shots with four apiece.
  • Kaleigh Sasdelli played all 60 minutes in the net and made three saves.
  • West Chester held the advantage in shots (33-18) and ground balls (20-23).

  • "We played a strong first half and played well as a team. We need to continue working to play a full 60 minutes at that level."
  • "We want to continue growing. Playing good teams only makes us better, and we are learning every game."
