ABOUT THE MATCH
- Millersville wrestling opens dual meet action against a PSAC opponent in Shippensburg. Shippensburg has four duals under its belt already, owning a 2-2 record. Shippensburg's last action was a 57-0 loss to Bloomsburg on Nov. 17. Millersville is coming off the “Shorty” Hitchcock Classic and has competed in three tournaments so far.
- Millersville went 7-10 in duals in its last full season of 2019-20 but posted a 1-6 record in PSAC action. That one PSAC win came against Shippensburg.
SCOUTING THE MARAUDERS
- Early returns have been impressive for several Marauders, notably 165-pound Brandon Connor and 285-pound Bishop McCoy. Connor leads the team with an 11-4 record. Connor has already posted a six-match winning streak with at least three wins in each of the team's three events. Among Connor's wins are two major decisions, a pin and a technical fall.
- McCoy, seeing his first collegiate action, took fourth at the ESU Open and won his pool at the Journeymen Classic. He was 8-3 before two losses at the “Shorty” Hitchcock Classic.
- The coaches of Super Region 1 have Millersville pegged sixth out of 11 teams. Connor and McCoy are both ranked fourth in their weight classes.
- A pair of potential starters returned to action at the “Shorty” Hitchcock Classic. At 125 pounds, Devin Flannery, who went 14-6 as a rookie in 2019-20, wrestled for the first time this season. He went 3-2 with his only losses coming against Division I opponents. Jonathan Parrilla missed the team's first two events while he represented his home nation of Puerto Rico at the U23 World Championships in Serbia. His return to action at 157 pounds saw him go 2-2, winning his first two matches. The Super Region 1 coaches have Flannery at No. 4 and Parrilla at No. 5.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
- The Raiders' two wins came against King's College (26-24) and Waynesburg (27-23). The Raiders' lineup is somewhat thin as it has forfeited at least two weight classes in each dual. The Marauders overcame the disadvantage against King's with pins from Josh Jackson (125), John Bachar (165) and Alex Fouse (197) and a tech fall from Danny Scheib at 285. Jackson and Bachar's two dual wins are both by pin. Bachar also had four-straight falls at the Alvernia Invitational and finished third.
- 157-pound Matt Milbrand won the Alvernia Invitational with a 3-0 record that included a pair of pins.
