Millersville wrestling sweeps through Hershey Duals

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Led by 3-0 days from Devin Flannery, Anthony Yacovetti and Anthony Giampietro, the Millersville wrestling team rolled to three dual wins at Saturday's Chocolate Duals. The Marauders topped Messiah 30-14, and then beat York 27-17 before closing the day with a 36-12 win over McDaniel. 

Yacovetti's three wins improved him to 5-0 on the young season, and he posted two tech falls and a pin on Saturday. Flannery was just as impressive, with tech falls in his first two matches and a pin against McDaniel. Guy Deleonardis went 2-0 in his two matches wrestled, and Anthony Giampietro, making his collegiate debut, earned three wins with two major decisions and a forfeit. 

Millersville is off to a 4-1 start for the first time since 2014-15. 

DUAL HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville won seven of the 10 bouts against Messiah and scored bonus points in six--totaling three major decisions and three technical falls. Flannery cruised to a 16-1 tech fall at 133 pounds. Deleonardis blanked rolled past Zach Needles by an 18-3 score at 165, and Yacovetti blanked Tyler Riley 16-0 in just three minutes at 174 pounds. Giampietro debuted with a 12-2 major decision over Ryder Slaton at 184 pounds. Bruce Vaughan (13-4) and Jonathan Parrilla (15-5) also scored majors for the Marauders. Bryce Beatty picked up a 12-7 decision at 125 pounds as well. 
• Against York, Deleonardis scored an impressive win at 165 pounds, knocking off Eric Hutchinson, the No. 9-ranked wrestler in Division III and a 2020 national qualifier, 3-1. Yacovetti improved his record to 5-0 with a pin in just seven seconds. Giampietro picked up his second major of the day, winning 12-3 against Thomas Quelet. Flannery continued to roll at 133, notching his second tech fall in as many as matches, finishing off an 18-3 score at the 6:13 mark. Josh Tuckey also earned a major decision (11-3) at 141 pounds. Millersville trailed in the team score 14-9 until Deleonardis, Yacovetti and Giampietro went on a run to put the Marauders up 22-14. The team score stood at 22-17 through nine matches, and it came down to the 285-pound match where Bishop McCoy dominated his way to a 22-7 tech fall, ending the match with Brock Hofler 45 seconds into the third period. 
• Millersville won four of the seven contested matches against McDaniel, getting 18 points from forfeits at 141, 149 and 184. Bryce Beatty gave the Marauders an early lead with an 11-4 decision at 125 pounds, and Flannery posted his third bonus-point win over the day with a pin of Nicolas Jones in just 51 seconds. Yacovetti powered his way to an 18-1 tech fall, ending the match 29 seconds into the second period. Vaughan added his second win of the day at 197 with a 2-1 decision against Jaedyn Harris.
