KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Tonight marked the third matchup of the season between Kutztown and Millersville, with the Golden Bears taking one-goal wins in each of the previous contests. KU came into this Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinal game ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation with a 17-1 record, 15-1 in PSAC East play. Millersville came into the match with a 5-2 record in it's last seven games that aided the Marauders' late season playoff push. Tonight however, none of that mattered, as records convert back to zeros and every team looks to survive and advance. The Marauders did just that, outlasting the Golden Bears in PK's, 5-4 to set up a date with Gannon in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kutztown controlled the ball for a majority of the first half, firing seven shots (two on frame) to Millersville's three (one on frame). The Golden Bears would break the scoreless tie in the 40' when Dana Wentz sent a rocket in front of the Marauder net for an Isabella Rossetti header. This would give the No. 1 seeded KU a one-goal lead heading into the break.
• The Marauders came out with energy to start the second half, keeping the ball in their attacking third for a majority of the first five minutes until
Emma Elwell was able to deflect a ball of a Golden Bear defender in the 51' to earn the Marauders their first corner of the game.
Cassie Blyth, a senior leader on the Millersville team, sent a pin-point ball in the front of the KU goal in which
Alexis Spencer was able to find and head in to even the score at one.
• From that point on each team had near equal opportunities, with Kutztown outshooting the Marauders 9-7 during the remaining time in regulation and both overtimes. The two teams would then gear up for their first PK experience of the 2021 season. From this point on all eyes were on Millersville keeper,
Reagan Kolinski, and Kutztown keeper, Emma Wolfel, as one save likely wins the match for their team.
