MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville Marauders traveled to Erie, Pa. and the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships with hopes of claiming spots in next month's NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Despite advancing three wrestlers to the semifinals (
Ryan McGuire at 141 pounds,
Jarrett Feeney at 165, and
Josh Walls at 285), the Marauders were not able to claim any podium spots in the top 3 and consequently were denied any national qualifiers.

McGuire and Feeney both were one spot away, finishing in fourth place, while Walls earned fifth place with a win on Saturday night.

Millersville finished seventh out of 11 institutions in the final team standings.

• Freshman 133-pounder
Jacob Lehman finished the dual meet season with momentum and wrestled tough today as well. Lehman lost his first bout of the day to Seton Hill's Vincent Distefanis 6-3 but battled back in the consolation bracket, posting an 8-6 decision over East Stroudsburg's Nick Conetta and then a first-period fall against Breandan Coughlin of Alderson Broaddus. Lehman again ran into Distefanis in the consi semifinal and dropped a 9-2 decision to end his run and his freshman season.

Ryan McGuire opened his tournament in the quarterfinals with a first period fall over Raul Mateo in just 2:47. In the semifinals, Mercyhurst's Alexis Soriano earned a 2-1 decision to send McGuire to the consolation bracket, where he won an 8-2 decision over Seton Hill's Joel Cawoski to advance to the third-place match. Facing off against Gannon's Nick Young, McGuire again lost by a single point, 4-3 to claim fourth place, an improvement on last year's fifth-place finish.

Jarrett Feeney found success in the 165-pound bracket. He began the his day with a 9-6 decision over Alex Shaw of Seton Hill. Feeney lost to Mercyhurst's Logan Grass 10-0 in the semifinals, but rebounded with a 6-0 decision over Fairmont St.'s Cade Moisey to advance to the third-place bout. Feeney took on Pitt-Johnstown's Devin Austin, the No.8-ranked 165-pounder in Division II, and lost an 8-3 decision.

Josh Walls entered the 285-pound bracket and quickly posted a fall over American International's Alex Britos in just 1:04 to advance to the quarterfinals. Walls defeated Pitt-Johnstown's Allan Beattie 7-2 to book his spot in the semifinals against Kutztown's Andrew Dunn, the No. 1-ranked heavyweight in Division II. Walls had lost to Dunn 8-4 earlier this season but pushed Dunn to the limit in the second meeting. The bout went to overtime, where Dunn survived to win it in tiebreaker one with a final score of 2-1. Walls dropped to the consolation semifinals where he lost a 6-2 decision to Seton Hill's Jacob Beistel, the No. 9-ranked Division II heavyweight in the country.
