WILMINGTON, Del. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team went on an early five-goal run that included three goals within a single minute of play to take the lead and never look back in defeating Wilmington, 20-10.
The Marauders improve to 1-0 on the season. Wilmington falls to 1-1 overall.
Grace Cobaugh led Millersville with six goals and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Millersville gained possession of the game's first draw, but a quick turnover led to a Wilmington goal. The Marauders and Wildcats then traded goals for a 2-2 tie with 24:18 left.
• Millersville's second goal from
Grace Cobaugh swung the momentum in its direction. The Marauders rattled off five consecutive goals, totaling three in the 21
st minute alone. Wilmington cut the deficit to two by scoring three goals over a four-minute span. The Marauders scored four more goals in the first half and allowed just two more to take an 11-7 lead into halftime.
• Wilmington came out hot to start the second half, scoring the first goal in just 50 seconds. Millersville then posted a six-goal run--its largest of the game--for a 17-8 lead. Wilmington scored two more goals in the half, but it was too little too late as the Marauders ran away with the lead adding two more goals of their own for the 20-10 victory.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Cobaugh's seven points led the Marauders' scoring efforts.

Gillian Zimmerman scored two goals off a team-high 10 shots.

Sara Burney and Emily Jacobson both added three goals off five shots each to the team's total. The duo also collected the most ground balls with four apiece.

Sarah Leverentz and
Genevieve Speights totaled two goals apiece off four and three shots, respectively. Leverentz dominated the draw control with a team-high seven.

Hayden Corcoran recorded her first career goal.
Samantha Kreis also scored one goal.

Michella Salvitti forced a team-high two turnovers.

Kelly Layton recorded the entire 60 minutes in net totaling seven saves off 17 shots faced.
NOTES
• Millersville held an advantage in draw controls (20-12), shots (47-19), ground balls (25-17), clears (16-24), free-position shots (11-5) and turned the ball over 17 times to the Wildcats' 21.
• The Marauders have now won seven straight games against the Wildcats.
• Millersville's 20 goals mark the most the Marauders have scored since the 2018 season when it tallied 26 against Gannon. It is the most goals scored under head coach
Cindy Wilson.
