Marauders snap skid with 62-48 win over Mansfield

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Just three days after scoring 41 points and becoming the Millersville women's basketball all-time leading scorer, junior Lauren Lister poured in 23 points to lead the Marauders to a 62-48 victory against Mansfield on Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Lister scored her game-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field and stuffed the rest of the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Mansfield kept the game close in the first quarter and traded buckets back and forth with the Marauders, resulting in nine lead changes. Senior Courtney Dimoff settled Millersville down and drained a trio of three-pointers in the quarter. Dimoff finished the game with 12 total points, five rebounds, five assists, and a season-high four steals. Dimoff and Lister were the only Marauders to reach double-digit scoring in the game.

The Millersville victory snaps a four-game losing streak that dated back to Feb. 1. The Marauders improve to 8-16 overall and 5-14 in PSAC play, while Mansfield falls to 3-22 overall and 1-18 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was tied at 14 with 2:26 left in the first before the Marauders took the lead for good thanks to a 10-0 run that spanned both the first and second quarters, capped off by sophomore Erika Reed's three-pointer from the corner that made it 24-14.
• The Millersville defense stifled Mansfield in the second quarter, holding them to 2-of-16 shooting (12.5%) from the field. For the game, the Mountaineers shot just 26.7% (16-of-60).
• The Marauders ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run and took a 33-22 lead into the locker room thanks to an Olivia Mottern three-pointer and two consecutive Lauren Lister buckets.
• Lister came out on a mission in the third quarter and sparked an 11-0 run completely by herself on 5-of-6 shooting, scoring all but four of the Marauders' points in the quarter and giving the team a 48-30 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Millersville set season-highs in both steals (17) and three-point attempts (32).
• The Marauders scored 26 points off 26 Mansfield turnovers.
• Ty Taylor came off the bench and swiped a season-high four steals. Taylor has accrued a total of 19 steals this season, the third-highest total on the team behind Lister (48) and Dimoff (30).
• Millersville sophomore Erika Reed did a little bit of everything in the game, finishing with five points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior Mia Leonard provided a much-needed presence in the paint, scoring six points and collecting nine rebounds. Leonard has brought down at least eight rebounds in six of her last seven games.
• Olivia Mottern swished two three-pointers in the game and finished with eight points. Mottern leads the Marauders with 47 three-pointers made this season.
• Mansfield's Alivia Paeglow and Paige Whitfield were tied for the team-high in points with 11 apiece.

POST-GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MARY FLEIG
• On Lauren Lister's follow-up performance to Wednesday's career night: "She does it with ease and she does not do it with any type of ego. She doesn't do it for her—she does it for our team. We need her in critical times and she's leading the way in terms of hard work not only offensively but defensively. She's a great person for our young players to look up to."
• On the ability of the team to fight through adversity in the first half: "We worked through that first quarter. Sometimes games are like that. At halftime I thought we played down to their level and we were making uncharacteristic, bad decisions. We composed ourselves and turned it around. Our bench players came in and did a great job as well."
• On what she wants to see from the team as the season winds down: "I want the team to stay very passionate, play hard, and be mentally tough every day. I want to see them play with pride and play for the name on the front of their jerseys."

NOTES
• Millersville has now won six straight games versus Mansfield. The Marauders have dominated the all-time series between the two schools, winning 69 games and losing only five.
• Lauren Lister has scored at least 20 points in all but two games this season.

UP NEXT
