Marauders' bats quieted in Saturday's losses

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Millersville's lineup was held in check by W.Va. State and Goldey-Beacom on day two of the season-opening trip to Myrtle Beach. Millersville mustered just eight hits in the two games, falling 8-0 to W.Va. State and 8-1 to Goldey-Beacom.

Early home runs from both of Saturday's opponents put the Marauders in holes. Devan Masciulli and Brianna Battavio combined for five of Millersville's eight hits on the day. Millersville dropped to 2-2 on the season.

RECAP: W.Va. STATE 8, MILLERSVILLE 1
• Emma Ruth's three-run homer in the first inning got W.Va. State rolling, and the Yellow Jackets added three in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles, and Ruth added a two-run double in the sixth.
• Emily Moore kept the Marauders' in check. She tossed six shutout innings, striking out five. Masciulli and Battavio accounted for Millersville's only hits. Millersville managed to put a runner on base in just three innings.

RECAP: GOLDEY-BEACOM 8, MILLERSVILLE 1
• Brooke Conaty led off the game with a solo home run, and pitcher Jess Lusk helped her own cause with a two-run home run of her own in the third inning. Millersville trailed 4-0 before Masciulli doubled in Savannah Kolenda in the bottom of the third.
• Millersville could get no closer as Goldey-Beacom added three more in the fifth and another in the sixth. In the sixth, Millersville did get a single from Battavio, a single from Rebecca Blatt and a double from Sami Fried but could not get a run across.
• Battavio led the Marauders with two hits while also making her first career start at pitcher. Lusk pitched a complete-game for the Lightning, striking out five.
