Offense struggles in the second half in women's lacrosse's 7-5 PSAC Quarterfinals loss

Erie, Pa. - The Millersville University women's lacrosse team took a 4-1 lead into halftime against No. 24 Mercyhurst, but it was unable to bring that offensive output into the second half, scoring just one goal, and losing by a final score of 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon. It marks the team's sixth loss this season by three goals or fewer.

The Marauders (9-9, 7-5 PSAC) were making their first PSAC Tournament appearance since the 2016 season, while the Lakers (13-5, 9-3 PSAC) advance to face No. 14 East Stroudsburg in the semifinal round on Friday, May 3.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Brenna Fosco opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 24:08 mark to give Mercyhurst an early 1-0 advantage. That lead stood until Gillian Zimmerman tied the game at the 14:40 mark, and Emily Jacobsen gave Millersville the lead less than six minutes later. Genevieve Speights increased the Marauder lead to 3-1 at the 7:17 mark thanks to an assist from Sara Burney, who also assisted the first two goals. A last-minute goal from Grace Cobaugh sent Millersville into halftime with a 4-1 lead.
• The Lakers scored the first five goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead it would ultimately not surrender. Julia Rescott's goal at the 11:32 mark tied the game, and Angelina Simon's goal at the 9:35 mark gave Mercyhurst the lead.
• Jacobsen got the Marauders on the board in the second half and made it a one-goal game off a free-position shot at the 7:36 mark. Millersville won the subsequent draw control but turned the ball over, allowing Rescott to score on a free-position shot at the 6:06 mark. Millersville again won the subsequent draw control, but managed just one shot in the final six minutes.
