PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Millersville University women's track and field team sent a select group of athletes to the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday. Sunflower Greene's NCAA Championships automatic qualifying mark against a host of Division I performers in the shot put, and Aliyah Striver's NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put highlighted the Marauders' afternoon.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Greene topped her previous season best by more than two feet, hitting 52-6 1/2, qualifying her for the NCAA Division II Championships for a third consecutive outdoor season. Greene finished fifth in a field of 13 Division I competitors. Indiana's Madison Pollard won the event with a mark of 53-10. The only other athletes ahead of Greene came from Clemson, Indiana, and the University of Cincinnati.
• Greene also qualified for the championship heat in the hammer throw but finished 11th with a toss of 179-6--more than 20 feet under her previous season best. Florida State's Veronika Kanuchova won the event with a toss of 215-3.
• Striver's career-best of 46-10 3/4 placed her eighth in the field of 41 athletes--the majority of which were from Division I.
