
Millersville throwers dominate at SU Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Millersville University women's track and field team picked up four new PSAC Championships qualifiers Wednesday at the fifth annual SU Invitational. Millersville's throwers took the top four spots in the hammer, three of the top five places in the discus and Aliyah Striver won the shot put.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
• Sunflower Greene won the hammer with a toss of 196-4. Junior Madison Martin placed second and missed a NCAA provisional qualifying distance by just two inches. Her 169-10 was a personal best by more than six feet. Stephanie Garner took fourth with a toss of 157-11. Aliyah Striver threw 156-10--a career-best by five-feet-four inches.
• Greene won the discus with a throw of 145-3. Martin placed third at 137-6. Striver took fifth with a toss of 129-9.
• Striver's first-place finish in the shot put came on a throw of 43-1 1/2. Reunisha Williams placed fifth with a mark of 36-0 1/4.
• Destinee Holloman qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 100-meter dash, posting a personal-best of 12.18. She placed third, ahead of teammates Kay Liebl (fifth) and Brianna Doherty (seventh). Liebl's 12.66 was a career best, and just .06 shy of a PSAC qualification. Doherty's 12.75 was .01 away from a PR.
• Kay Liebl jumped 17-6 1/4 for a sixth-place finish and qualified for the PSAC Championships with that jump. Holloman (17-2 3/4) and Brianna Doherty (17-2 1/4) placed eighth and ninth.
• Patrisha Davis qualified for the PSAC Championships in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 35-3 3/4, which netted her an eighth-place finish.
• Devon Matz ran the 400-meter hurdles for the second time in her career and ran a PR time of 1:11.35, placing ninth.
WHAT COACH ANDY YOUNG HAD TO SAY
• "It was nice to see some positive development with the individuals on the team. We hope to see more over the next few weeks as we tune up for the PSAC Championships."
• "We have quite a few opportunities with our heaviest competition period of the year coming up."
NOTES
• Greene has won the hammer throw at the SU Invitational in three consecutive seasons. She did not compete in the shot put but was the defending champ. She has won the discus in back-to-back seasons.
• Striver's first-place finish in the shot put was the first of her outdoor career. She has finished in second place at three meets.
