A school record six home runs in opener spark Marauders to sweep of Lightning

Philadelphia, Pa. - Snow was falling but the Millersville bats stayed red hot in Friday's doubleheader sweep of Goldey-Beacom. The Marauders hit a school record six home runs in the 11-1 game one victory and then banged out 14 hits in a 15-4 game two victory.

The wins improved Millersville to 8-4, giving the Marauders eight wins in the last nine games. Goldey-Beacom dropped to 1-7 on the season.

GAME 1 RECAP
Dominic Hardaway, Cole Friese and Nick Graham hit two home runs apiece as the Marauders scored at least one run each six of the seven innings. Friese got the Marauders started with a solo home run in the top of the inning out of his No. 2 spot in the lineup. Hardaway's first blast followed a Ben Snyder double in the third. He hit his second in the fifth. Graham's first was a two-run shot in the sixth, and later that inning, Friese added his second of the game--this one of the two-run variety. In the seventh, Graham capped the Marauders' scoring with a homer of the left field wall, bringing in freshman Jimmy Losh, who had led off with his first career triple.
• Senior Eli Nabholz (3-1) threw five shutout innings, scattering just four hits without issuing a walk. He also struck out six. All four hits he allowed were singles and not a single runner reached scoring position against him.

GAME 2 RECAP
• Game two's offensive outburst was led by senior Ben Snyder, who went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, three runs and a walk. Snyder drove in at least one run with each of his four hits. It started with a two-run double in the first. The Marauders scored three in the inning and went on to score at least one run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth.
Kaylor Kulina went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Friese doubled and tripled. Ben Harris knocked in two with a double--his first collegiate hit. The Marauders also drew eight walks to go with the 14 hits.
• Starter Drew Miller (3-1) worked four shutout innings before giving up three in the fifth. His day ended after 4 2/3. Bobby Dorta completed that inning and sat down the first two batters he faced in the sixth.

COACH JON SHEHAN QUOTES
• "Hitters are on time. They are swinging at good pitches and protecting each other. When you hit all the way through the lineup, with Kaylor and Friese getting on base, guys are getting fastballs and driving in runs."
• "We knew Graham was fully capable of being a very good hitter. He was our best hitter in the fall last year when he redshirted. We can catch him two games each weekend. It's pretty nice to have three catches in the lineup who all swing the bat well."
• "Last year it was the same thing. He couldn't find his breaking ball early. We went back to some video this week and changed the grip on his slider so he had more depth with it today. He also went back to his curveball today so he had two breaking balls in the zone. That's important because with the cold weather his velocity is not where he wants it to be, but he can compete with two breaking balls."
• "One thing we knew going into the year is that we had good depth with our position players and that we will play good defense. In the early part of this season, that has proven to be true."

NOTES
• Millersville has scored at least eight runs in eight of the last nine games.
• Millersville did not commit an error in either game and has gone three consecutive games without an error.
• Snyder, the reigning PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week, has a hit in each of the last six games.

UP NEXT
• Millersville is back in action Saturday at 12 p.m. against Goldey-Beacom. Both games will be played at Hank DeVincent Field on La Salle University's campus.
