Zimmerman's game-winner in overtime snaps Ville's 10-game losing streak to IUP

Millersville, Pa. - Four-straight goals by the Crimson Hawks in the final 3:30 of regulation sent the back and forth battle into overtime, but Gillian Zimmerman scored the game-winner just over 30 seconds into the extra period to give the Millersville University women's lacrosse team an exciting, 14-13 victory on Saturday afternoon on Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. It marks the Marauders' third-straight win and their first over Indiana (Pa.) since March 14, 2009, when Zimmerman was just nine years old.

Millersville (6-3, 4-1 PSAC) has won five of its last six, while the Crimson Hawks (3-5, 1-3 PSAC) lost their third-straight game.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Sarah Leverentz won the draw control to begin overtime and eventually sent a pass to Gillian Zimmerman on the left side of the net. Zimmerman, who had already tied a career high with four goals, fired her fifth tally of the game into the back of the net to clinch the win for the Marauders.
• After Indiana (Pa.) tied the game with 1:44 remaining in regulation, the Crimson Hawks won the subsequent draw control and looked poised to end the game early. The ball eventually ended up in the stick of Ally Burrows, Indiana coach leading scorer who already recorded two goals in the game. Burrows fired a shot from point-blank range on the left side of the net, but Millersville goalkeeper Shannon Davis made her ninth and biggest save of the game to keep the match tied.
• The two teams exchanged the lead back and forth early in the game, but four-straight goals by the Crimson Hawks gave them a 7-4 lead with just over one minute remaining in the first half. Zimmerman scored with less than one minute remaining in the half to send her team into halftime down only two goals.
• The Marauders came out firing in the second half, scoring seven of the first eight goals in the period to build a four-point lead, the largest either team held in the game.

COACH CINDY WILSON QUOTES
• "Gillian Zimmerman came out ready to fight. She has been gaining confidence all season and has stepped up big time to fill in that scoring role for us."
• "Shannon Davis has been working really hard and is putting in extra time on visualization. She's a brick wall back there and has come up big for us in some key games."
• "We stuck together and had each other's backs for the entire game. It was a hard-fought battle throughout. Indiana (Pa.) is a good team, but we worked together and played our game and that's what got us the win in the end."
• "It comes down to managing the flow of the game and dictating those momentum swings. When things didn't go our way we were able to keep our mental toughness and were able to swing it back in our favor in the end."
• "They have been working really hard and it's fun to see that hard work come together. But, the PSAC is a tough conference so we have to keep working and still have a lot of big games ahead of us. We'll use this as confidence but we're going to keep working, continue to grow and be ready for our upcoming games."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Gillian Zimmerman scored a game and career-high five goals to go along with the first game-winner of her collegiate career. Sarah Leverentz, Sara Burney and Genevieve Speights each scored two goals, with Leverentz adding one assist for a total of three points.
• Speights notched team highs in draw controls (4), caused turnovers (2) and scored on both of her free position attempts. Leverentz and Grace Cobaugh weren't far behind in draw controls, winning three each. Burney and Natalie Sukanick each collected a team-high four ground balls, while Speights, Zimmerman and Cobaugh each scooped up three ground balls.

The Crimson Hawks had a slight edge in saves (12-9), clears (17-15) and draw controls (16-13).
