SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Millersville University softball team suffered an 8-0 defeat in game one with Shepherd's Taylor Stocks throwing a no-hitter. The Marauders could not stop the Rams' bats in game two and finished non-conference play with a 4-1 loss on Wednesday afternoon.
The Marauders are now 14-15 on the season as they head into conference play while the Rams improve to 17-5.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
• The Rams began the contest with four runs in the first including a Lori Sturgill two-run inside the park home run. The Rams kept adding runs in the third and fourth innings, scoring two in each inning.Â
• Shepherd's pitcher Taylor Stocks struck out seven batters through the first three innings and finished the game with 10 strikeouts and a no-hitter performance. Millersville's pitching began with
Emma Bevard throwing 3 2/3 inning. Bevard allowed all of the eight runs and nine hits.
Maddie Guinane pitched in the final 1/3 of the game in relief.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
• Shepherd used a three-run bottom of the third to open up a 4-0 lead. Â
• The Marauders and Rams held each other scoreless for the next three innings until the top of the seventh when the Marauders scored one. After two singles,
Devan Masciulli drew a walk which loaded the bases.
Brianna Battavio hit an RBI single to right center, scoring
Sam Waldman and ending the shutout opportunity for the Rams. With the tying run on first,
Rebecca Blatt and
Faith Willenbrock were unable to get the ball in play which ended the game.
• Battavio, Willenbrock,
Brianna White and
Catherine Johnson each had a hit in the game.
• Guinane started game two, pitching in the first two innings while allowing five hits and four runs. Johnson came in relief and threw the rest of the game, giving up only one hit and no runs while striking out two batters.

NOTES
• Game one marked the third time that the Marauders have had one or fewer hits in a single game this season.
• The teams faced off against each other in last year's season opener. They totaled 22 runs in game one and then kept it up in game two with 23. Both games went to the Marauders.
• After today's results went to Shepherd, the Rams took the lead in the series with a 12-11 advantage.

• The Marauders return back to action for their first conference doubleheader of the year on Friday, March 29 at East Stroudsburg. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
