Late charge helps Millersville triumph over Shippensburg

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University wrestling team won the last four of five bouts to triumph over PSAC foe Shippensburg 27-15 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Pucillo Gymnasium. Freshman Anthony Yacovetti (174) broke open the Marauders' lead and Evan Morrill (184) and Colton Dull (197) finished off the win. 

The Marauders received their first conference dual win of the season and now own a 3-8 overall record. Six Marauders claimed victory with Yacovetti's pin and Dull's major decision earning bonus points. 

Trailing 12-8 after the 149-pound weight class, the Marauders fought to capture its first dual win since Jan. 18 against American International.

DUAL HIGHLIGHTS
• At 133, freshman Ryan McGuire began the Marauders scoring with a 20-3 technical fall over Jake Downing, cutting Raiders lead to 6-5. McGuire scored early with two takedowns but Downing escaped twice in the process, making the match to 4-2 at the midpoint of the first period. McGuire scored four near-fall points, getting Downey on his back at the end of the first period which ended with a 10-2 advantage for McGuire. McGuire closed the match with five takedowns, capturing his 17th victory.
• Freshman Anthony Wiggins (141) got his second straight start which went down as a 12-9 loss. The Raiders' Matt Milbrand held Wiggins to no points in the final seconds of the third period, wrapping up a win for the Shippensburg, extending their lead to 9-5.
• Redshirt senior D.J. Mele began the charge by winning 4-2 at the 149-pound weight class. Mele grabbed a leg for a takedown, earning the first points of the match inside the one minute mark of the first. Mele earned two near-fall points, extending his lead to 4-0. Babcock was able to earn two escapes but was unable to get late points. At 157, freshman Rob Saum fell 6-0 to Drake Brenize before Shippensburg forfeited their 165-pound match to Ruhnke.
• Trailing by 2-0 in the first period, 174-pound freshman Anthony Yacovetti got the crowd going when he pinned Austin Klucker at the 2:35 mark. Yacovetti's pin pushed the Marauders even more past the Raiders with a 20-12 advantage with three matches left. Morrill carried the Marauder lead to 23-12 with a 9-3 decision victory against Ryan Narber. Morrill entered the third period with a 5-3 lead after escaping in the last seconds of the second. Morrill came out of the third period, scoring a takedown and a two-point nearfall, finishing with a 9-3 triumph.
• Dull returned to action after recovering from an injury and won in 13-2 major decision over Alex Castro. Inside the first two minutes of the first period, Dull led 6-0. Dull finished the first period with an 8-0 lead and never let up. Dull rounded out the winning for the squad as redshirt senior David Wuestner fell 8-4 against Derek Berberick.

NOTES
• McGuire has won six of his last seven with the only loss coming to a Division I opponent. 
• The last time the Marauders won with more than 23 points against a conference opponent was in the 2016-17 season when they defeated Gannon in a 23-21 win.
• Yacovetti recorded his second pin and seventh win of the year.

• The Marauders returns to dual action for the final time before the NCAA Super Regional 1 Championships as they host Franklin & Marshall for the Rupp Cup on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
