Marauders earn seven place winners at W&J Invitational

| By:
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Millersville Marauders entered the brackets at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational with some season-opening vigor and earned seven place winners. Senior Caleb Warner went 5-0 on the day to win the 285-pound bracket including a 4-2 decision in the finals over fellow Millersville wrestler Josh Walls. Walls, a sophomore, had four wins on the day and finished as the 285-pound runner-up.

A pair of Marauders freshmen made deep runs in the 125-pound bracket. Travis Kotelnicki finished as runner-up after a successful three-win day. Fellow 125-pounder Devin Flannery also won three matches, including a fall over Lycoming's Shane Casey in the third-place bout. Both Kotelnicki and Flannery lost to eventual 125-pound champion Manny Dovshek from the host Washington & Jefferson Presidents.

The list of Marauders' third-place finishers also includes sophomore Ryan McGuire at 141 and freshman Jackson Erb at 149 pounds. McGuire defeated Stevens Tech's Pasquale Vizzoni by decision 5-2 in the 141 third-place match, while Erb won by major decision 12-0 against Bryce Crew of Washington and Lee University.

POST-TOURNAMENT REACTION FROM HEAD COACH KERRY REGNER
On today's results: "We came here to get matches in to start the season and to work on things. We saw some guys gritting through injuries and aches and pains. Saw some good things and some things where we still have a ways to go. A lot of guys got their first wins, and it's very important to me to have the guys see that their hard work pays off. Overall, just happy with what we came out here to do: wrestle matches and win matches. Then we're on to the next."

On Caleb Warner and Josh Walls' runs to the 285 title match: "It's great to see the competition we see in the room between those two beating elite competition at a tournament. Caleb and Josh have the opportunity to wrestle each other day in and day out in the wrestling room and it shows in the results. They came in with the intention to win and battle for spots and they did so."
