No. 15 Marauders fall to No. 6 Bloomsburg 2-0 as playoff picture clarifies

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – After a match that featured two nationally-ranked teams it was No. 6 Bloomsburg emerging victorious 2-0 over the No. 15-ranked Millersville Marauders. With the win, the Huskies earn their second straight PSAC East regular-season championship while the Marauders lock up second place in the East, an improvement over their third-place finish in 2018.

Millersville now hosts a PSAC tournament quarterfinal match with East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. That match takes place at Pucillo Field on the campus of Millersville University. Those two teams played just three days ago on Nov. 6, with the Marauders claiming a 2-1 victory in double overtime to sweep the regular season series with the Warriors. Bloomsburg will play West Chester in the other East quarterfinal.

In today's game, Bloomsburg opened the scoring in the 27th minute on a Megan Callan goal and added another in the 56th minute with a long range effort from Mackenzie Gebhardt.

The Huskies have won both regular season meetings against the Marauders in 2019. The two teams met just one time in 2018, with Millersville claiming a 2-1 victory.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• There was a flurry of action in the 20th minute as the Millersville defense and goalkeeper Reagan Kolinski denied the Huskies. Kolinski saved an initial shot from Paige Harris and the threat did not end until a Lauren Hoelke shot went wide to allow the Marauders to catch their breath.

• Bloomsburg broke through in the 27th minute when Hoelke received the ball at the top of the box and found Megan Callan on the run with a pass. Callan slotted the ball into the far corner for the first goal of the game.

• The Huskies would add an insurance goal in the 56th minute, when Mackenzie Gebhardt took her chance from outside the 18 yard box, launching the long-distance shot into the goal.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
• On what makes Bloomsburg a challenging team to face: "First and foremost they work hard and compete. If you don't do that then you're in trouble. They also have quality players to go with it."

• On the atmosphere of the game: "I don't think the atmosphere was intense. The moment may have been but the atmosphere was much like a normal game. Hopefully we can learn from this experience."

• On what is important to focus on before Tuesday's game: "Listening and execution."
