East Stroudsburg earns 1-0 overtime win to oust Marauders from PSAC tournament

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – For the second time in a week the No. 15 Millersville women's soccer team and No. 23 East Stroudsburg needed overtime to decide the game, but this time it was the Warriors who scored the game-winning goal at Pucillo Field. Danielle Cary headed home a cross from Haley Skove to win Tuesday night's PSAC quarterfinal match 1-0 and advance East Stroudsburg to Friday's semifinals at Slippery Rock University.

Frigid temperatures did not slow down both teams' offenses on the night, as players sprinted end-to-end to create chances. Millersville finished the game with 13 shots with seven on goal while ESU launched 14 with six of them on goal.

The two teams added another dramatic chapter to their recent history; East Stroudsburg defeated Millersville three times in the 2018 season, including eliminating them in the PSAC semifinals and NCAA tournament. The Marauders bounced back with two consecutive victories over the Warriors in the 2019 season before that streak was ended tonight. Three of the last five meetings between the two schools have gone to overtime.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville goalkeeper Reagan Kolinski came up with a huge save in the 16th minute. She punched away a corner kick directly to the feet of Syd Hicks, who blasted the ball towards the left side of the net. Kolinski dove to her right and stretched out, doing just enough to direct the ball away and keep it out of the goal.
• It was the Marauders' turn to threaten in the 39th minute. Kylie Sullivan charged into the penalty box, moving to her left, and sent a screamer towards goal. The shot deflected off a defender and rebounded right to Morgan Winchock on the right side of the box. The follow-up shot was well-saved by ESU goalkeeper Mauri Jackson.
• Substitute Amanda McElhare, who scored the golden goal against the Warriors last Wednesday, almost came up with more magic in the 43rd minute. The ESU defense gave her plenty of space down the center of the pitch and McElhare rocketed a shot from 20 yards out that almost snuck inside the right post but soared wide instead.
• Millersville created another incredible chance in the 85th minute, when Lauren Downey rose up at the far post to head a cross back across the face of goal. The ball surely was headed for the back of the net if not for a fingertip save from Jackson, who kept the ball out to force overtime.
• Just four minutes into the first overtime, East Stroudsburg's Haley Skove dribbled down the right wing towards the corner, sending a cross directly to the head of Danielle Cary at the far post. Cary directed it just inside the left post to send the Warriors to the PSAC semifinals.

POST GAME REACTION FROM HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO
• On the performance tonight: "Thought it was a great team performance overall. We did create chances but couldn't find the finish in the end. Sometimes that's how the game goes. The girls played great. I couldn't be prouder of them. They did what we asked them to do and responded from the weekend. Unfortunately we didn't get the result we desired."

• On the message to the team after the game: "I echoed my thoughts above to them. To lose a game like that is tough to handle. It will take time to move on but they gave everything they could and that's what matters. We're hopeful that we will get another chance in the NCAA tournament."

• Senior Kay Liebl led the Marauders in shots with four. Junior Lauren Downey sent three towards frame, while freshmen Michelle Belcher and Morgan Winchock each added a pair of shots.
