Millersville falls to Shippensburg in overtime, 2-1

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Millersville field hockey team scored a late goal in regulation to send the game into overtime, but it was No. 6 Shippensburg who prevailed with a sudden victory goal in overtime, taking the game, 2-1.

The loss marks the Marauders' second of the season following a 2-0 loss to West Chester the week before (Oct. 2). Millersville's record now stands at 9-2 and 2-2 in the PSAC. The Raiders improve to 6-5 and 3-1 in the PSAC.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Shippensburg broke the scoreless game five minutes into the second half. Emily Stauffer dribbled to the cage for the goal off a pass from Jazmin Petrantonio.
• With just under seven minutes left in regulation, the Marauders got on the board to tie the game 1-1. Off a penalty corner, Kyra Brakefield inserted the ball to Erica Tarsi at the top of the circle. Tarsi fired the ball to the cage popping it into the air. Brakefield tapped the airborne ball into the top left corner of the cage for the goal, sending the game into overtime.
• Five minutes into overtime, a yellow card against Millersville gave Shippensburg the man-up advantage. The Raiders forced back-to-back penalty corners to set up their final attack. Petrantonio recovered the ball off her blocked shot scrambling in the circle before crossing it into the bottom left corner of the cage for the decision-maker.
• Autumn Peters came up big for the Marauders, saving four of Shippensburg's six shots on goal. In the first quarter, Peters slapped the ball out of the air before kicking it out of the circle for the clear. Peters then stepped out of the cage early in the second, keeping Shippensburg's Megan Green from recovering the attempted shot for a goal.

COACH SHELLY BEHRENS QUOTES
• "It was a great game. The kids never gave up a fight. We stayed in it the whole time. I thought we could've gotten one in regular time. We had chances in the extra quarter. I'm very proud of the kids. There is one thing everybody can do better. That's all I ask them to do, is if there is just one thing that you could've brought to the game tonight. Tonight is not the night to think about that one thing, tomorrow is. So, let's do that and let's move forward."
• "I thought the energy overall of our team defense was exciting tonight. I'm very proud of them, from the strikers on back. I thought Brooke Troutman did a really great job going in at right defense for us. Losing Sol Ortiz-Kreiner and just having people really step up was great. I thought it was a great hockey match. People got free hockey with the extra quarter. You just saw two great PSAC teams battling it out tonight."
