No. 2 Millersville takes the crown, defeats Queens 5-0

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – After a small setback earlier in the week, the No. 2-ranked Millersville field hockey team reenergized scoring three-straight goals in the second quarter to defeat Queens 5-0 in front 215 fans at Biemesderfer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Erica Tarsi continued her scoring streak this season finding success in her second penalty stroke of 2019. Four other Marauders got on the board putting up four goals in 12 minutes.

The Marauders improve to 10-2 overall while Queens' record now sits at 7-5.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Georgia Werkiser was the first Marauder to strike. After inserting the ball on a penalty corner to Jordan Goddard, Werkiser set up her attack at the left post. Kate Strickland pushed the ball over to the post and Werkiser tipped it in for the 1-0 lead.
• Just over a minute later the Marauders earned their fourth penalty stroke of the season and Tarsi stepped up to the line. On the whistle, Tarsi found the bottom right of the cage just sneaking it past the Royals goalkeeper. That gave the Marauders a 2-0 advantage.
• With five minutes left in the half, Emma Boutcher stepped into the circle taking a backhand shot at the goal. The rocket broke through the Queens' defense and found the far left side of the cage for the Marauders' third goal of the game.
• Off a penalty corner early in the third quarter, Emma Boutcher connected with Goddard at the top of the circle. Goddard made a quick pass right to Hannah Brown who launched the ball to the back of the cage.
• The Marauders set up their final goal off a penalty corner just over two minutes into the half. The ball made its way through the chaos to Ashlynn Lennon. Lennon lifted the ball into traffic in front of the cage where Asia Weaver managed to get a stick on it and redirected it to the goal.

COACH SHELLY BEHRENS QUOTES
• "Today was nice to just find ourselves a little bit again. I'm proud of what the girls did quarter to quarter. Last Tuesday's game really can take a lot out of you mentally, physically and emotionally. I love how people stepped up and filled in. It was just a really good and solid team win against a good opponent and a great day for us."
• "People getting minutes is invaluable. Nothing replicates a game like a game. I thought Georgia Werkiser was excellent today off the bench for us. Maddy Christen, Ashlynn Lennon, Taylor Geisel, Brynne Ehrlacher, Abby Biddle, Mackenzie Hadfield and Brooke Troutman all did a great job. These guys know that it's their time and when it's time to go in they do their part. I'm pleased with their performance and thought there was good focus from them today to accomplish some things."
• "We left some goals on the field. We couldn't find that happy place, that just right. We were trying to overkill it or under hit it. I think the kids were just trying too hard at some times. I wanted to give different people the ball and put different people in situations because that's what makes us, us."
• "Our alumni are incredibly special to me and to this program. Well before me and hopefully well after me people will love this program and love these kids as much as I do. I love the support that our friends, our fans and our alumni give us, so this is their day."
