MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville came close just three minutes into the second half after
Kyra Brakefield inserted the ball off a corner to
Erica Tarsi at the top of the circle. Tarsi's initial shot was blocked and picked up by
Emma Boutcher. Boutcher battled with a defender and the ball landed on the stick of
Georgia Werkiser. Werkiser danced around the goalie on the right post before the ball was forced out over the goal line.
• The Marauders found themselves in the same position just three minutes later with
Hannah Brown taking the initial shot that was blocked by the Golden Bears defense. Werkiser was in position to collect the loose ball again coming face-to-face with the Kutztown goalkeeper on the right post. The ball was forced over the goal line.
• With just under two minutes left in the third quarter, Tarsi brought the ball 15 yards into the circle, fighting off three Golden Bears' defenders and forcing the corner. Tarsi received the insert and fired the ball to the goal, but it was deflected out of play by the Kutztown defense.
• Kutztown made a handful of attempts in the last minutes of regulation, but the efforts proved to be no issue for
Autumn Peters in the cage. The Golden Bears fired a rocket toward the cage forcing Peters to make a diving split for the save.
•
Jordan Goddard slapped a shot to the cage with just three minutes left in regulation. The ball broke through the Kutztown defense, but just grazed the left post before going out of play.
• Seven minutes into the first overtime, Kutztown saw the opportunity to end it. The ball got away from the Marauder defense stopping at the top of the circle. Peters stepped out of the cage, winning the race to the ball and clearing it away from the Kutztown offense. The Golden Bears tried to strike again in the second overtime, but Peter slapped the ball away in the air with her left glove to prevent the game-ending goal.
• It was
Emma Boutcher who score for Millersville in the shootout. After three unsuccessful attempts by Millersville, Boutcher stepped up to the circle, dancing with the Kutztown goalie before finding the back of the cage. I love how hard the kids play and their perseverance and resiliency. We had some tough calls tonight, but that is the sport and we will use it and move forward in order to continue to grow and compete. Every time these ladies take the field you get their best and I can't ask for anything more."
