ABOUT THE MARAUDERS
• For the sixth consecutive time, Shippensburg is nationally-ranked when it faces Millersville. Home court has proven key in the recent history of the series as Millersville has won two in a row at home over nationally-ranked Shippensburg teams. Millersville has won seven of the last eight meetings in Pucillo Gymnasium, with the lone loss coming in 2015-16 when Millersville won just four games all season. Recent trends project a high-scoring game as well. The winning score in each of the last six games has been 82 or more.Â
• In 2017-18, Millersville led the PSAC in minutes played by freshmen. The Marauders still have the second-youngest starting lineup in the PSAC with two freshmen and two sophomores earning 46 of a 65 possible starts this season. Senior
Marcus Adkison, sophomore
Jamal Washington and junior
Amadou Kaba combine for the other 19. Freshmen
Jaden Faulkner (12) and
Justin Nwosu (13) and sophomores
James Sullivan (41) and
Caden Najdawi (38) have combined for just 104 career games played. The only more inexperienced starting lineup in the PSAC is California (5-7), which starts three freshmen and a sophomore.
• Faulkner was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Week Monday after averaging 18.5 points, 7.5 assists, 4.5 rebouns and 4.5 steals per game against Penn State Fayette and West Chester. Over his last four games, Faulkner has averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.25 steals per game. He ranks 11th in the PSAC in assists. Nwosu is already a two-time winner of the freshman of the week award, making Millersville one of three teams (Pitt-Johnstown and California) with two different players winning the weekly award.Â
• While the Marauders' youth have been key contributors, the team's most veteran players, Kaba (+16.07) and Adkison (+9.76), rank first and third on the team in plus/minus per 40 minutes. Millersville's most utilized lineup of Washington, Sullivan, Adkison, Nwosu and Najdawi is +35 points over 142:11.Â
• Adkison made three 3-pointers against West Chester to become the sixth Marauder with 200 career threes made. Adkison has hit that mark in just 68 career games. Adkison ranks sixth in career threes made and is trending toward becoming the first Marauder since 1995 to shoot over 40 percent from three in a career. Including his freshman season totals at Shepherd, Adkison has 1,350 points, ranking 20th all-time at Millersville. He is also one steal from cracking Millersville's career top 10.Â
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
• Shippensburg has won four of its last five, but Wednesday's game is just the sixth road game for the Raiders. They are 9-1 at home and 3-2 away. Each of Shippensburg's last three wins have come by six points or fewer. Most recently, the Raiders topped East Stroudsburg 76-70 to move into a tie for first place in the PSAC East. While Shippensburg ranks ninth in the PSAC in scoring and 14th in shooting percentage, it has made 28 more threes than any other team and has attempted 82 more than any other team in the league. The Raiders also play stingy defense. Their .303 field goal percentage defense ranks first in the PSAC. Their scoring defense (68.0 points per game) is fourth-best.Â
THE LAST MEETING (Feb. 26, 2018 - Ship 94, Millersville 67)
• Fast starts to both halves were key for the Raiders (22-5), who built a 20-point first-half lead before the Marauders (10-19) chipped it to 51-42 behind a 15 first-half points from freshman
James Sullivan. Sullivan, however, could not maintain his hot shooting, and Shippensburg pulled away, outscoring Millersville 43-25 over the final 20 minutes, hitting six threes while Millersville went 0 of 6 from deep. Sullivan finished with 19 points after hitting each of his first five 3-pointer attempts. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Fellow freshman
Caden Najdawi added 10 points and five boards.
