Marauders win second-straight, defeating Mansfield, 55-47

Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville University women's basketball team never trailed in its 55-47 win against Mansfield on Saturday afternoon in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders outrebounded the Mountaineers 39-27 and held Mansfield to a 32.7 shooting percentage in a rematch of last season's PSAC Tournament First Round.

"A win is a win," head coach Mary Fleig said. "It wasn't pretty, but we found a way to win. We did a good job of outrebounding them, especially on the offensive boards. We weren't all there mentally, and we need to change that mindset before next week when we go to Bloomsburg and Kutztown."

Millersville (6-9, 3-5 PSAC) won its second-straight game, while the Mountaineers (0-12, 0-8 PSAC) are still seeking their first win this season.

Lauren Lister scored a team-high 23 points, her ninth 20-point game this season, and went 9-for-10 from the charity strip while grabbing six rebounds. Kendra Bamberger also had a strong performance, totaling 12 points, a team-high eight rebounds and three assists and added one block while shooting 5-for-7 from the floor.

"Lauren Lister did a good job scoring consistently in both halves," Fleig said. "Kendra did a great job communicating, rebounding and scoring for us. She kept us together on the court and showed a lot of good leadership out there."

A 14-4 run in the fourth quarter pulled Mansfield to within four with 1:38 remaining in the game, but the Marauder defense didn't allow another point to secure the victory.

"On defense, we let too many people shoot open threes down the stretch," Fleig said. "We needed to be up on them more."

Millersville's best run of the game came in the second quarter, when it began the period on an 8-0 run. During that stretch, the Marauders held Mansfield to 0-for-3 from the floor and caused seven Mountaineer turnovers. Millersville also distributed the ball well during the run, with Lister, Olivia Mottern, Kennedy Middleton and Chandera Jones-Aryeh each scoring two points.

Turnovers were aplenty, as the two teams combined for 48. Millersville scored 22 points off 25 Mountaineer turnovers, while Mansfield scored 20 points off 23 Marauder turnovers.
