Millersville, Pa. - Back in Pucillo Gymnasium for the first time since the season opener, the Millersville women's volleyball team enjoyed its home court advantage in sweeps of Bloomfield (25-5, 25-13, 25-19) and USciences (25-19, 25-17, 25-19). The wins pushed Millersville to 4-3 and improved its home record to 3-0.
vs. Bloomfield
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville hit .458 in the lopsided first-set win, totaling 11 kills without an error.
Courtney Turocy also delivered three service aces in the set.
•
Samantha Miller recorded eight of her team-high 11 kills in the second set. She did so without committing a hitting error.
•
Lindsey Blevins totaled six of MIllersville's 14 kills in set three.
• Millersville held Bloomfield to four kills in each of the first two sets and seven in the third. Meanwhile, Millersville totaled 39 to just 10 hitting errors. The Marauders nine service aces.
COACH BRIAN SMITH QUOTES
• "It was an opportunity to give some players some playing experience, which is important to building depth. The key for us in the match was staying focused and executing."
• "Haley (Butler) has been out. It's the first time she's played all season, so we tried to nurse her back in. The first two sets we played her as an outside, Courtney on the right side and Jayci (Suseland) in the middle. We seem to have more offensive opportunities that way."
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Turocy totaled a season-high five aces. She had three total coming into the match.
• Miller's 11 kills came on 18 swings (.500). The total was a career high and the first time since Oct. 19, 2017 that she hit double digits in kills.
vs. USciences
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Thirteen of Millersville's first-set points came from three players.
Haley Butler totaled five kills, Blevins added four with a service ace and
Jayci Suseland totaled four kills. The teams were knotted at 12-12 before Millersville slowly pulled away and built its lead to as many as seven points (24-17).
• The second set belonged to Blevins, who totaled seven of her team-high 17 kills in the set. She did not commit an error and used just 13 attacks.
Katie Laughman piled up 15 of her 37 assists in the set as well. The Marauders totaled 17 kills to just three errors while USciences managed just eight kills and six errors in the set. Still, the Marauders trailed 14-12 before a Suseland kill started an 8-0 Millersville run. The run included three kills from Blevins and two fom Suseland.
Kat Forry served for seven of the points.
• Laughman broke open the third set with her serve. A Blevins kill put Millersville up 10-9 and put the ball in the hands of Laughman, who delivered three consecutive aces and served the Marauders to six consecutive points.
COACH BRIAN SMITH QUOTES
• "It was good to see us finish off the close sets. I wasn't concerned. We were down early in a couple of sets. We just had to take care of our side of the net. We helped them some. We cleaned it up enough to come back and win."
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Blevins totaled 17 kills while committing just two errors, hitting .417 in the match. Suseland added 11 for her five match in double-figures this season. She committed just one hitting error. Blevins also added two aces.
• Freshman Madee Luring led the team with a career-high 12 digs. She also contributed an ace.
• Turocy came within one dig of her career-high as she provided 10.
NOTES
• Millersville improved to 2-0 all-time against Bloomfield and 7-0 all-time against USciences.
• Blevins has totaled 17 or more kills in four of her last six matches. In those four, she has 69 kills to just 15 errors.
