Jacob Gosselin's initial shot was saved.
• The Vulcans scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute off a Conner Griest throw in, which was headed in by Eric Campbell.
• The Marauders came out of that goal recording four shots and corner kicks in a span of 20 minutes.
• In double overtime, Gosselin found himself free along the edge of the field, and his cross found the foot of Burns, who netted his shot into the right side.
• Millersville had a 19-9 edge in shots on the day and also led in corner kicks, 10-2.
HEAD COACH STEVE WIDDOWSON QUOTES
• "Jaxson put in another great shift for us. His work rate was relentless, and he kept driving his team on. He was rewarded with the game-winner and thoroughly deserved that special moment to help his team out when we really needed it."
• "I'm not sure if [our experience in overtime] was a positive or negative thing since we hadn't won any of them yet. The positive came in that I know everyone was determined to not tie another game, especially one we deserved to win. But I know there's always that lingering doubt until you finally win an overtime game so it's good that we overcame that obstacle today."
• "Good to see [
Jacob Gosselin] contributing with points. He worked hard and was around a lot of opportunities. Still some parts of his game need to be sharper but that's the same with most of the guys. We are improving, but I know there's still more in these guys. I'm hoping we continue to move forward and grow and see more from everyone."
• "Overall [the defense] did well. Just a few slack moments caused some concern but they did really well dealing with their direct play and superior height. They also provided some good build up play with the ball and provided opportunities on the attacking side."
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Gosselin assisted in both of the Marauders' goals.
• Shortt earned his first collegiate goal.
• Burns' game-winning goal was his fourth goal, and he assisted in the first goal. Burns pushed past senior
Chase Flickinger in the team's point lead with 10.
• Flickinger led the team with five shots. Three Marauders--Burns, Gosselin, and Flickinger--fired two shots on goal each.
• Goalkeeper junior
Darian McCauley recorded two saves while his counterpart, Lucas Exner, saved 10 shots.
NOTES
• Seven of the 11 starters recorded a shot in today's match.
• The Marauders captured their 18th all-time victory over the Vulcans.
• Both teams combined for a total of 32 fouls with the Vulcans leading with 18.
UP NEXT
• The Marauders return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3, as they face West Chester at Pucillo Field at 7:30 p.m.
