Mansfield, Pa. – Scoring plays in the late innings decided both games of Millersville's doubleheader at Mansfield. The Mountaineers took game one, 8-7, with a run in the sixth inning.
Bobby Dorta's home run at the top of the seventh inning claimed a 4-3 win in game two for the Marauders, giving the Millersville its third win over Mansfield in four days.
The Marauders earned their 20th victory today to improve their record to 20-10 and 8-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Millersville combined for 16 hits in the two games.
Dorta was essential in both games and went a combined 3 for 5, including the game-winning home run in game two.
Dominic Hardaway was a combined 2 for 5 during the doubleheader. In game two, Hardaway recorded a season-high three RBIs.
Game 1
In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on third and first, Mansfield's J.P. Bonanca hit the ball to second base. The second baseman threw the ball to first base to get the out which then allowed the runner on third to score for Mansfield's seventh run of the game.
Prior to the go-ahead run in the sixth, Mansfield was down 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mountaineers scored five runs in the inning to tie the game at 6-6. Camren Ney and Zach Merkle singled to bring in one run each. Colby Schearer had a two-RBI single to make the score, 6-5, and then he scored the tying run off a fielding error.
The Marauders extended their lead to 6-1 in the top of the third inning. The scoring began with Manny Brookens hitting the ball to the first baseman who misthrew the ball into the outfield, trying to get the double play.
Ben Snyder scored on the wild throw to make it 4-1. Brookens stole second. Then,
Brandon White hit a two-RBI single to left field that made the score 6-1.
Jimmy Cain started the Marauders' scoring with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning. Cain recorded his first home run of the season. The Mountaineers responded with a Bonanca single that scored one. A half inning later, Dorta brought in Evan Callahan with a single to center field to make the score 3-1.
Synder led the offensive numbers by going 2 for 4 and recording two runs. Dorta went 2 for 3 with one RBI.

Jon Shehan used four pitchers in game one.
Daniel Ross started three 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and striking out one.
Stephen Muscovitch came in for one batter in the third inning.
Tyler Yankosky's allowed run was the game winner that earned him the loss in relief during the sixth inning.
Drew Miller pitched in the seventh inning to finish the game out.
Game 2
The Marauders regrouped in game two and entered the top of the seventh inning tied 3-3. Dorta hit a home run to right field for the go-ahead score. With a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Marauders ended the side to win the game.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mansfield's Merkle hit a home run to left field and gave the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead; its first lead of the game. Hardaway responded with a RBI single at the top of the fifth to tie the game 3-3.
The team's battled in the early innings. Hardaway began the Millersville scoring with a two-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning. It was Hardaway's first home run in the black and gold. Overall, Hardaway reached base three times in his three at-bats during game two.
Mike Mock claimed his second victory of the season after entering the game at the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs. He closed out the game, allowing one hit and striking out four batters in the final one 1/3 innings.
Christian Wingard pitched one 2/3 innings and allowed two hits. Starter
Andrew Mayhew went four innings; striking out three batters, walking two, and allowing five hits.
