Millersville, Pa. - Sophomore
Drew Miller threw six shutout innings,
Dominic Hardaway hit a home run, and a three-run sixth inning led Millersville to a 4-0 victory over Lock Haven Sunday at Cooper Park.
The win clinches the series win for the Marauders, who have won every season series against Lock Haven since 2008. The Marauders improved to 28-15 (16-8) and into a three-way tie for first place in the PSAC East. Millersville also clinched a berth to the PSAC Tournament for the seventh time in eight years.Â
Miller (2-1) struck out six and allowed just four hits.
Mike Mock pitched a shutout seventh with a strikeout. It was just the second time in 37 games that Lock Haven has been shut out.
Hardaway's home run came on an 0-2 pitch in the fourth inning, and it broke a scoreless tie. It was his fifth of the season and his first at Cooper Park. The Marauders put runners on base in four of the first five innings but did not extend its lead until the sixth. Lock Haven starter Avery Eddy (3-4) walked both
Ben Snyder and
Jimmy Cain. A double steal opened first base, and Lock Haven intentionally walked Hardaway to load the bases.
Bobby Dorta worked a five-pitch walk to give Millersville a 2-0 lead.
Manning Brookens followed with a hard grounder that stayed just inside the first base bag. Cain and Hardaway scored on the double.
Lock Haven put runners in scoring position in the second, third, fifth and sixth but could not string together hits against Miller. All five of Lock Haven's hits were singles.
Millersville drew seven walks and stole four bases. Snyder stole two bases and walked twice. Brookens went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles.
Millersville is at Cooper Park for its next three games. It hosts Wilmington on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and starts its final regular season series on Friday at 1 p.m. against Bloomsburg.
