Fusco breaks single-season goals record; Ville falls at Seton Hill

Greensburg, Pa. -- Senior Sabrina Fusco scored seven goals to break the single-season goal record, in the final game of her career, but Millersville fell at Seton Hill, 16-13, Saturday afternoon.

Fusco, who broke the all-time goals and points records earlier in the season, needed five goals to tie, Millersville Hall of Famer, Liz Weekley's 68 goals from the 2008 season. The attacker reached the mark in the first half.

Fusco rattled off the opening two goals for Millersville, in less than minute, after the Marauders fell down 2-0 in the opening two minutes. The Griffins responded to Fusco's opening salvo by scoring six unanswered goals to take an 8-2 lead, with 22 minutes remaining in the first half. Millersville regrouped and outscored Seton Hill, 6-3, in the final minutes of the first half. During the scoring run, Fusco assisted one goal and snagged her three goals that tied the record.

Just over two minutes into the second half, a familiar connection allowed Fusco to break the record. Senior Kristen Butzner fed Fusco for her 69th goal of the season. The dynamic attacking duo, who's connection led to an unprecedented amount of goals for the Marauders this season, connected again less than two minutes later to cut Seton Hill's lead to one goal.

Seton Hill mustered one goal, following the back-to-back goals from Fusco, before another barrage of Millersville goals gave the Marauders their first lead of the game with 17:17 remaining in the second half.

However, down 13-12, the Griffins scored four unanswered to earn the win on their senior day.

Fusco finished with a game-high nine points which tied the highest points total for a Marauder this season - Butzner scored nine points in multiple games this season. Butzner finished first on the team with five assists and second on the team with five points.

Butnzer finished the season with a team-high 95 points and 67 assists while Fusco led the team with 71 goals and finished second with 86 points.

Senior Callie Kavanaugh's assist against Seton Hill raised her points total to 63 which capped off her exceptional final season. Kavanaugh entered the season with 65 combined points over her Millersville career and nearly topped it in her final campaign.

The Marauders finished the season 10-7 and 5-7 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. It was the second-highest win total since 2002 - one win behind the 2016 campaign's 11 wins.

The Millersville Marauders also sported one of the most prolific offenses in the PSAC. Millersville finished with 265 goals which shattered the program's single-season goal record of 228 goals back in 2016. The team also recorded, a program-record 148 assists, topping the 1998 season's 100 assists.
