Millersville, Pa. - Lock Haven scored five unanswered runs including four in the top of the seventh to top Millersville 8-4 in game one of Saturday's PSAC East doubleheader. Game two was postponed because of rain and was rescheduled for Sunday, April 29 with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
Millersville scored in the first, and after Lock Haven scored three in the top of the third, the Marauders answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Jimmy Cain drove in one with a single, and
Manning Brookens gave the Marauders the lead with a two-out, two-run single.
But Lock Haven evened the score in the fifth on a Kolby Dehaas RBI single. Lock Haven starter Ross Mintzer blanked Millersville for three innings, putting his team in position to break the tie in the seventh.
Cayden Stover led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third when a pick off throw to second skipped into center. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases, and Justin Sleigh ripped a bases-clearing triple to right center. Dehaas added to the four-run inning with a sacrifice fly.
Millersville put four runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but failed to score. A leadoff walk was cut down with a 6-3 double play.
Ben Snyder walked, Cain singled and
Dominic Hardaway walked to load the bases. Pinch hitter
Bobby Dorta hit a blooper to left field, and Demetrius Haskins ended the game with a diving grab.
Mintzer (3-3) gave up just four hits and struck out two over six innings. Breton LaRose pitched the final inning. Millersville starter
Tyler Yankosky gave up four on five hits through 4 2/3 innings. He had retired 11 consecutive before being pulled following a leadoff walk in the fifth.
Millersville and Lock Haven complete the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
