Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville University softball team came up short in a hard fought battle against Lock Haven in game one's 4-2 loss Saturday afternoon. The Marauders were defeated in the second game 8-0 that ended in the fifth inning.
The Marauders drop to 12-11 while the Bald Eagles improve to 11-9.
Sophomore
Rebecca Blatt extended her hitting streak to eight games with a home run and a double. Blatt moved into a tie for the single-season home run record with seven. She is tied with her teammate
Faith Willenbrock, Meghan Sinback and Jordan Sheffield. Willenbrock went 2 for 5, both singles, and increased her hitting streak to 10 games.
GAME 1
The Bald Eagles had a key hit from Amanda Lour to come out on top. In the top of the sixth inning, Lour singled up the middle, scoring two runs and breaking the tie.
Blatt hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning, tying the game at 2-2.
In the top of the first, the Bald Eagles started the game with a 2-0 lead. Madison Mathes had an infield single to shortstop which scored the first run of the game. Then, Bryann Hilty had an infield single to advance the runners which made it 2-0.
Pitcher Bekah Slattery recorded the complete game. Her performance included 12 strikeouts, three walks and five hits allowed. Slattery improved her strikeout total to 69 on the season. Millersville's freshman
Catherine Johnson went the complete game and struck out three batters while allowing six hits.
Freshman
Allie Janowiak went 2 for 3 (.456) and extended her hitting streak to seven games. Janowiak improved her batting average to .456.
GAME 2
Lock Haven took an 5-0 lead in a first inning that started with a double, two singles and a passed ball from which the Marauders could not recover.
The Bald Eagles kept scoring in the top of the second inning. It began with a three run single up the left field line with bases loaded that put the score to 8-0.
Millersville's best chance came in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman Devan Mascuilli singled to left field and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. Sophomore
Nicole Burke advanced to third base. A pop out, however, left two stranded.
Four Marauders had one hit each. Those players included Blatt, Willenbrock, Mascuilli and Almodovar. Janowiak's hitting streak was snapped at six.
Gee struck out seven Marauders in her second shutout of the season. Gee allowed four hits and one walk in her sixth win of the season. Johnson got the start in the second game but only went 1/3 inning, allowing five hits and five runs. White came in after the fourth run and struck out six batters and gave up three runs.
