Millersville, Pa. - Sophomore shortstop
Eric Callahan delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th to give Millersville a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over Seton Hill Sunday afternoon at Cooper Park. The win polished off a three-game series sweep of the visiting Griffins.
After
Dominic Hardaway's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth, the game stayed deadlocked at 3-3 until the bottom of the 13th when Hardaway led off with a deep drive to the right field warning track. The fielder had trouble tracking the ball and it glanced off his glove, allowing Hardaway to cruise into second base. Freshman
Luke Trainer effectively moved Hardaway to third with a ground out to first base. Callahan followed, lining the first pitch offering from Jared Kollar over the out-stretched glove of the third baseman. Hardaway scored without a play at the plate.Â
Millersville's bullpen was outstanding, keeping Seton Hill scoreless with just two hits over the final nine innings.
Dylan Boisclair picked up the win after a 1-2-3 top of the 13th. Freshman
Andrew Mayhew fanned five in 3 2/3 innings ranging from the ninth to the 12th.
Liam Grande pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings,
Christian Wingard got the Marauders out of the seventh, and
Daniel Ross fanned three in two shutout innings.
Millersville had to rally from a 3-2 deficit after Craig Lewis hit a two-run home run in the fifth. Millersville left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, but tied the game in the eighth. Snyder and
Manning Brookens led off with walks.
Jimmy Cain reached safely on a bunt down the third base line, and one batter later, Hardaway pushed the tying run across with a walk.
The Marauders put runners on base in the ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th innings but could not break through until Callahan's single in the 13th. Seton Hill put two on in the ninth but Mayhew came out of the pen and sat down both batters he faced, ending the jam. In the 12th, Seton Hill's Tom McCarthy led off with a walk, and Tyler Peterson hit a shot to left but was injured coming out of the box and did not reach first. Mayhew then ended the jam with a strikeout and pop out.
Millersville drew more walks (9) than had hits (7). Hardaway reached base three times with a two-run double in the second and two walks.
Ben Snyder and
Jimmy Cain also had two hits and a walk apiece.
