Clermont, Fla. – The Millersville University softball team lost 6-2 to University of Bridgeport and 2-1 to Northwood University in the final day of the spring break trip Friday.
The Marauders are now 9-8. The team concluded its trip with a record of 6-7. Millersville had six hits in each game today.
Freshman
Faith Willenbrock went 3 for 7 for the second consecutive day. Willenbrock's day included a double, a home run and a single. Willenbrock extended her hitting streak to four games.
Junior
Maggie Murphy had her first two-hit game this season against Bridgeport. Murphy went 3 for 5 on the day
VS. UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT
A high-scoring top of the third inning led the Purple Knights to a 6-0 lead that the Marauders could not overcome. Elyssa Marmolejo began the scoring attack by singling to center field to score one. Then, Kaira Ramon tripled to score Marmolejo. Jordan Hillyer and Allison Luzzi drove in one run each in their at-bats to end the scoring run.
Freshman
Allie Janowiak started the fourth inning with a triple to right field: her second of the season. Sophomore
Rebecca Blatt and Willenbrock both doubled, bringing in two runs.
Leading the Millersville offense, Murphy and Willenbrock had two hits in three at bats. WIllenbrock has eight games games with two or more hits.
Bridgeport's Ashley Eisnor tossed a complete game, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out five batters. For Millersville, sophomore
Emma Bevard came into relief after freshman
Catherine Johnson gave up the four-run third inning. Bevard struck out three batters, allowing one run and four hits.
VS. NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY
Northwood's pitcher Taylor Wright excelled in a performance that included 17 strikeouts and one walk. Wright broke her single game strikeout record.
The Timberwolves took their second lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning by a Lauren Castellon single that scored one. The Timberwolves led 2-1 and never looked back behind Wright dominating on the mound.
Willenbrock gave Millersville its lone run when she hit a bomb deep to center field for her sixth home run of the season. That solo homer momentarily tied the game at 1-1.
In the bottom of the first inning, Northwood struck first by Meghan Franz grounding out to the pitcher and the runner on third to score.
Three Marauders singled in the top of the third inning to have a bases loaded opportunity with one out. Wright struck out both batters to end the possible scoring threat for the Marauders.
Freshman
Brianna White went four innings, giving up four hits, two runs and striking out three batters. White has a pitching record of 1-1 so far this season.
