Millersville loses two on second day of Florida trip

Clermont, Fla. – The Millersville University softball team lost 1-0 in both games Wednesday, falling to Augustana (S.D.) and Charleston (W.Va.).

The Golden Eagles tied the program series record at 2-2. This was the first time that the Marauders played Augustana (SD) in softball history.

Freshman Faith Willenbrock ended her three-game hitting streak while freshman Allie Janowiak extended her hitting streak to four games. Janowiak has now four games that she has two hits. Today, Janowiak went 3 for 7. Freshman Devan Mascuilli added to the hits column by going 2 for 7.

But the Marauders could not find their bats today, totaling seven hits in the two games.

VS. UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON
Down by one in the top of the seventh inning, Janowiak singled to move Mascuilli to third base putting the tying run 90 feet away. Sophomore Rebecca Blatt hit a liner that was snared, ending the game.

Senior Raeann Buskey reached first on a shortstop error to put runners on all bases in the top of the second inning. The Charleston pitcher, however, escaped the jam with a ground out.

The Golden Eagles scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Danielle Norton doubled to left field and came home on a Rachel Rusch single.

The Marauders team had three chances with a runner on third but could not come up with a hit. The Marauders grounded out six times to shortstop or third base.

VS. AUGUSTANA
Augustana's pitcher Ashely Mickschl shined in the game by allowing only two hits and striking out nine batters, walking one batter and keeping the Marauders scoreless. Cassidy Pinchorski was the hard-luck loser, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on five hits and three walks.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Vikings broke the scoreless game with a Maggie Kadrlik single to left field followed by an errant throw.

Millersville's best chance to score was in the bottom of the second inning with bases loaded but the inning ended with a strikeout.

NEXT UP
The Marauders have an early day tomorrow, Thursday, March 15, when they face Minnesota Crookston at 8:30 a.m., and Bemidji State at 10:30 a.m.
