Cary, N.C. – The Millersville University softball team shut out Bluefield State 8-0 before falling by a 7-4 final to No. 22 ranked Queens (N.C.) on the final day of the Shaw Challenge on Saturday.
Senior pitcher
Cassidy Pinchorski allowed only one hit in the shutout against Bluefield State. Millersville totaled 16 hits in the doubleheader and improved their record to 7-2.
VS. BLUEFIELD STATE
Pinchorski had a perfect game through the bottom of the fourth until a bunt single broke up the bid. That was the only hit Pinchorski allowed in the game. Pinchorski completed the shutout while striking out seven batters and allowing only one walk. Pinchorski earned her first win of the season.
With Millersville already leading 2-0, sophomore
Sam Waldman started a three-run fourth inning by driving in
Kaelyn Buskey with a RBI single. Waldman later scored on a passed ball, and
Ally Kerr scored on a wild pitch, giving Millersville a 5-0 lead.
Raeann Buskey also scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Waldman delivered a RBI single, and
Kelsey Campbell hit the team's 12 home run of the season.
Waldman and Campbell led the offense, each going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. K. Buskey stole four bases.
VS. QUEENS
Queens of Charlotte came out of the gates with a four-run first inning for the Marauders not able to rally back.
Freshman Devan Mascuilli drove in a run with a single in the third, putting Millersville on the board. Junior
Morgan Almodovar drove in Campbell in the fifth, bringing Millersville to within 5-2. Queens, however, extended its lead with a two-run inning with a single and a sacrifice fly and took a 7-2 lead into the seventh.
Millersville looked for a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, and with two outs Willenbrock nailed a double to right center, driving in two runs. Willenbrock, however was thrown out trying to reach third.
Sophomore
Rebecca Blatt and freshman
Allie Janowiak led the offense by going 2 for 3. One of Janowiak's hit was a triple in the bottom of the third inning.
