Hall's buzzer beater clinches PSAC East third seed and Coach Fleig's 500th Millersville win

East Stroudsburg, Pa. -- Senior Alayah Hall sunk her game-winning layup at the buzzer to give Millersville an 80-78 victory over East Stroudsburg and finish the season sweep of the Warriors Saturday afternoon. The Marauders clinched the third seed in the PSAC East playoffs, and Head Coach Mary Fleig earned her 500th win at the helm of the Millersville women's basketball team.

With the game cinched up at 78 all and the shot clock off, ESU's Imani Brown had the ball at the top of the key. Brown, a top-5 scorer in the PSAC, had already scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, and it was a guarantee that she would take the final shot. Brown drove the lane, but the Millersville defense forced the tough shot with seven seconds left in regulation. Redshirt junior Janelle Robinson snagged the rebound and passed the ball to Hall who was streaking up the wing. Hall cut back towards the middle into the paint and laid the ball up right as the buzzer went off. The ball fell through the net, and the Marauders walked off the court with their third straight win.

Millersville knew it needed to start fast to knock off ESU who already clinched the second seed in the PSAC East. The Warriors sported a 9-3 record at home, and they were celebrating Brown on Senior Day. The Marauders and Warriors ran up and down the court in the first quarter as both teams mobilized their transition offenses. The Warriors finished the first quarter with a lead, but the Marauders were only down 25-23. Millersville's press defense forced East Stroudsburg into mistakes throughout the second quarter. Millersville's pressure forced East Stroudsburg into nine turnovers in the second half, and Millersville scored 12 points off turnovers. Millersville took a 40-38 lead into the locker room while freshman Lauren Lister scored 12 points, Hall scored nine, and junior Jade Farquhar scored seven.

Sloppy shooting and six more turnovers from the Warriors helped the Marauders build an 11-point lead in the third quarter. The Warriors rallied in the fourth quarter with an 18-8 run to start the quarter and take a 69-68 lead which was its first lead since the first half. East Stroudsburg earned the 69-68 lead after giving Millersville a taste of its own medicine by forcing turnovers and converting in the paint. The final 4:16 featured four ties and three lead changes as the teams traded baskets but never had more than a one-possession lead.

Lister scored 22 points as she led all scorers in the game. In 39 minutes on the court, she shot 9-16 from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line. She contributed all over the court as she snagged five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Lister has now started in nine straight games and scored in double-figures in nine straight games.

Hall's last ride continues to produce historic outcomes. After becoming the 22nd player in program history with 1,000 points scored, Hall's 21 points against East Stroudsburg moved her up to a tie at 18th all-time with 1,021 career points.

Of course, Hall's final field goal of the game also added to Coach Fleig's already sterling legacy at Millersville. Coach Fleig is only the second PSAC women's basketball coach to reach 500 wins behind current Edinboro coach Stan Swank. Coach Fleig now has 622 total career victories as a head coach.

Farquhar erupted for 18 points on 8-13 shooting against the Warriors, and the guard was able to break a four game streak of single-digit scoring. Farquhar made 2-3 three pointers in the game including a massive answer to take the lead back after ESU's Jordan Hertz's three pointer gave ESU the 69-68 lead late in the fourth. Farquhar added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals to Millersville's efforts.

The Marauders finished the regular season with a 15-11 overall record and 12-10 record in the PSAC. Millersville enters the PSAC playoffs after winning seven of its last nine games including its current three game winning streak.

As the third seed, Millersville is set to host a PSAC First Round game against Mansfield on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. The Marauders split the season series with the Mountaineers as each team won its game at home. If Millersville defeats Mansfield on Monday, they head right back to East Stroudsburg to face the Warriors on Feb. 28 at 5 :30 p.m.
