TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
• Millersville wrestling travels to Pitt-Johnstown, for the two-day NCAA Super Region 1 Championships, which begins on Friday, Feb. 23.
• The Marauders was ranked 12th out of 15 teams in the Feb. 13 regional coaches' poll. Redshirt junior Shane Ruhnke enters the tournament ranked No. 9 nationally and No. 3 in the super region in the 165-pound weight class. Junior Colton Dull sits in sixth in the 197-pound weight class.
• The Marauders placed 13th out of 15 teams in each of the past three seasons. The last time Millersville broke inside the top 10 in the super regional was in the 2013-14 season when they finished ninth.
• Last season, Ruhnke claimed fifth, missing a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships by one place. The Marauders are looking for their first national qualifier since making the move to a Division II program in 2013-14.
SUPER REGION RUNDOWN
• The top four of each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championships at Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 8-10.
• The regional includes 15 teams. Notre Dame College (Ohio) sits on top of the rankings. The Marauders are in 12th in the rankings, tied with Ohio Valley.
• Notre Dame College has Ivan McClay (125), Taylor Misuna (149), Tony Vezzetti (184) and Kameron Teacher (285) on the top of their regional weight classes.
• Five of the Super Region I teams are in the Division II national team rankings.
• Six teams in the Super Regional are from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
• Pitt-Johnstown is another powerhouse in Division II to contend for the Super Region I title while being ranked sixth in Division II. The Mountain Cats' Cody Law is the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Division II at 157 pounds.
• Mercyhurst and Kutztown are in the fifth spot of the regional rankings. Wheeling Jesuit gained two more points to put them at fourth and Gannon ranks third.
MARAUDER OUTLOOK
• This is Kerry Regner's first season as Millersville's head coach but he has plenty of postseason success on his resume. He developed 23 national qualifiers and six All-Americans in just three seasons at NAIA Williams Baptist.
• The team ended the regular season with a 7-7 overall record. The Marauders broke an eight year drought of less than seven wins. The last time Millersville had more than seven wins was in 2008-09 season when it won nine.
• Ruhnke earned third-place finishes this season at the PSAC Championships and "Shorty" Hitchcock Memorial Classic. Ruhnke won 20 matches and is two wins shy of tying his career high in season wins. Ruhnke already broke his personal record for most dual match victories with 11. Ruhnke beat Devin Austin of Pitt-Johnstown at the PSAC Championships in a 14-6 major decision win. Austin evened the season series on Feb. 2 when he battled Ruhnke for a 10-9 decision. Ruhnke is 9-3 against Super Region 1 opponents this season.
• Dull is 6-2 in his last eight duals. Dull goes into the Super Regional with a team-leading seven technical falls. Dull has a record of 13-11 overall record but is 5-7 in tournaments with his best finish coming as runner-up at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
• Despite dropping out of the regional rankings, 133-pound Alex Baider is 6-1 in his last seven matches, with his only loss coming to Christopher Crane of Kutztown. Baider has the second most wins on the team with 15.
• Since dropping to 4-7 in January, 184-pound Evan Morrill has rallied with seven wins in 11 matches to even his record at 11-11. Four of those wins are major decisions.
• Sophomore Aaron Wildonger was inside the regional rankings before a season-ending injury. Connor Sheehan took his place on the 125-pound weight class. He has responded by going 4-1 with two pins.
