Women’s soccer edged out by East Stroudsburg in PSAC Semifinals

Bloomsburg, Pa. – The No. 7 seed and four-time defending PSAC champion East Stroudsburg scored with three minutes left in double overtime to edge the No.3 seed Millersville University women's soccer team in Friday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinal action at Steph Pettit Stadium on the campus of Bloomsburg.

The Marauders concluded the PSAC Tournament with an overall record of 14-5. The Marauders' season may not be over, however. Millersville was ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings and are in position to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Millersville began the scoring with sophomore Alexis Glode dishing an outlet pass up the right wing past the defense to sophomore Talia Grynkewicz who scored from right side past the diving goalkeeper in the 10th minute. That goal put the Marauders up 1-0.
• The Warriors erased the Millersville lead with a header by Haley Skove off a Jessica Woodbryne corner kick in the 26th minute.
• In the 40th minute, Junior Kay Liebl was charging up the field with a wide open field but was tripped inside the box and a penalty kick was called. Senior Delaney Meadows took the kick and converted it for a 2-1 Millersville lead.
• Right before halftime, East Stroudsburg came back a goal in the 44th minute. On a similar play from their first goal, a corner kick by Woodbryne to Alex Pickett, who headed in the equalizer.
• Six minutes into the first overtime period, Grynkewicz charged up the field and found space but her kick sailed high over the crossbar.

• "We played hard and competed well. The result was not due to a lack of effort or desire."
• "[East Stroudsburg] had a few opportunities that we were fortunate to get through."
• "[Grynkewicz} went at them on the dribble and scored a great goal. When we're able to get her running at defenders, she's extremely dangerous. It was a great start for us."
• "It's a high stakes high level game and this is new territory for us so we need to use this experience. We will continue to work on restarts and flighted balls."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Grynkewicz tallied her 11th goal and 27th point of the season. Meadows posted her fourth goal.
• Heimbach stopped five saves with four coming in the second half.
• Liebl and Meadows recorded a team-high four shots each.

NOTES
• This was the third time this season that an opponent has out-shot the Marauders. ESU had the 22-14 shots advantage.
• This marks the first time the Marauders competed in an overtime period this season.
• Both PSAC Semifinals game went to extra time.
• The Warriors have a chance to become PSAC champions for the fifth consecutive season on Sunday when they face host Bloomsburg.

UP NEXT
• Millersville will await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m., to see if the team makes its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
