Millersville's season comes to an end in NCAA Tournament

Bloomsburg, Pa. – The No. 15-ranked Millersville University women's soccer team's season came to an end in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to East Stroudsburg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on a rainy, cold Friday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Marauders finished their season with an overall record of 14-6. It was a season that included the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance and its first trip to the PSAC Tournament since 2003. Millersville ended its incredible season ranked 15th in the country based upon the United Soccer Coaches. The Marauders recorded their best winning percentage (.700) in program history.

ESU will face host No. 1 seed Bloomsburg on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in the second round.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The game was scoreless until the 78th minute when the Warriors received a goal from Hailee Reinhardt. A cross into the box started a scramble for the ball. Alex Pickett kicked the loose ball from the right side to the center of the box where Hailee Reinhardt kicked it past the Marauder goalkeeper Erin Heimbach, who had chased after the loose ball. After the goal, Millersville pushed to find the equalizer, posting two shots in the last minutes of the match but was unable to convert.
• The Marauders began the day with a close attempt in 20th minute when junior Kay Liebl collected a pass and dribbled up the right side, shooting it over left corner of goal.
• East Stroudsburg almost broke the scoreless match in the 36th minute. A corner kick by Jessica Woodbryne bounced into the middle of the box and Nicole Abbott's header clanked off the left post.
• The Warriors controlled possession in the first half, totaling five corners.

HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO QUOTES
• "I am extremely proud of the girls and all they accomplished this season. Reaching the conference semifinals and being the first team to quality for the NCAA Tournament is a lot to be proud of."
• "Right now, it is hard to see all that we did accomplish as this loss ended our season. However, we broke and set many records and made history. Individually, there were a lot of great things that happened as well. We were a team picked 13th in the preseason poll who finished third, went to the conference semifinals and NCAA Tournament."
• "I think before we look to the future we must remember all that our seniors have done for the program to get to this point. We appreciate all that Lauren (Hoffman), Bailey (Kramer) and Delaney (Meadows) have done for the program, and they will all be missed. The future looks bright for us going forward but that won't be without a lot of hard work and effort. We plan to put in the time, energy, and effort to again compete for the PSAC and NCAA Championships."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Sophomore Paige Mancini, sophomore Talia Grynkewicz and Meadows all recorded three shots.
• Heimbach stopped two shots and finished the season with a 10-5 record.

NOTES
• The Warriors won all three of the meetings with Millersville and all came by one goal. On Friday, East Stroudsburg kept the Marauders to only two shots on goal.
• Millersville led in shots on goal 1-0 in the first period, but was out-shot in total shots in the first half, 5-2. The Warriors ended the match with a 9-7 shots advantage.
• Liebl came up one goal and one point short of both single-season records. Her eight assists did tie the single-season record.
