Liebl’s hat-trick leads No. 22 Millersville to 4-1 upset of No. 7 West Chester

Millersville, Pa. – Junior Kay Liebl scored the final three goals as the No. 22 Millersville University women's soccer team upset No. 7 West Chester 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

The Marauders earned their second win of the season against nationally-ranked opponents, previously beating Seton Hill, 2-0. 

Millersville improved to 9-2 overall and 8-2 in conference play while the Golden Rams dropped to 7-2-1 and 6-2-1 on conference. The last time the Marauders had more than eight wins was in 2014 when the squad finished the season with nine victories.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• After the Golden Rams struck first, the Marauders scored four unanswered goals--three by Liebl and one by Meadows.
• In the 22nd minute, Liebl crossed the ball from the right side to the middle of the box. Senior Delaney Meadows ripped a shot that was saved but knocked in off the deflection. 
• Eleven minutes after the Marauders tied the game, Meadows' pass tipped off a defender. Liebl found the ball, turned to fire a shot that went past the goalkeeper.
• The Marauders extended their lead to 3-1 in the 51st minute when sophomore Lauren Downey chipped the ball through an open slot, finding Liebl who fired a shot into the back of the net.
• The Marauders clinched the victory with another goal in the 73rd minute. Freshman Kendall Ream worked up the left side and passed to Liebl who slid and kicked the ball past the goalkeeper.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Liebl scored her first career hat-trick. She has a point in all of the Marauders' games this season. She extended her goal total to 11.
• Meadows recorded her second goal of the season as well as assisting on the second goal. 
• Ream earned her first collegiate point. Downey posted her first point of the season, recording an assist.
• Sophomore Talia Grynkewicz fired a team-high five shots with Liebl right behind with four.
• In net, sophomore Erin Heimbach allowed one goal while recording four saves.

NOTES
• This was the first time in program history that the Marauders scored more than three goals against the Golden Rams. Millersville broke a four-year drought against the Golden Rams.
• The Marauders out-shot the Golden Rams 14-10 and 8-5 on goal.
• The Golden Rams had allowed only two goals all season before this match.
