Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ryan Small, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

No. 22 women’s soccer falls to Gannon; locks up No. 3 seed in PSAC Tournament

Erie, Pa. – The No. 22 ranked Millersville University women's soccer dropped its final match of the season, 4-0, against Gannon at McConnell Family Stadium Saturday night. With the loss, the Marauders earned the No. 3 seed in next week's PSAC Tournament. The Marauders will make just their third conference tournament appearance. 

 Millersville will host a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The opponent has not been decided yet. West Chester has one game to play. If the Golden Rams wins or tie their game, the Marauders would face East Stroudsburg or Seton Hill.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Sophomore Talia Grynkewicz had a key scoring chance in the ninth minute when she got turnover in midfield and shot from the 10-yard line. It was stopped by the goalkeeper.
• In the 16th minute, a Hannah Hays cross from the right side was sent into the box and goalkeeper Erin Heimbach bobbled the pass. The Golden Knight's Amberlynn Kegler chipped the loose ball into the net. The Golden Knights kept the momentum going with another goal in the 28th minute. Aesling McCullough scored with her back of her foot.
• A pass into the box from Taylor Lewis was collected by Cekella and she scored in the 36th minute. Cekella finished her day with another goal in the 71st minute.
• Another opportunity for the Marauders camenin the 63rd minute when junior Kay Liebl narrowly missed the right post.

• "Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, we are going to have to take a hard look at things."
• "We had a few scoring chances but couldn't find the back of the net."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Sophomore Talia Grynkewicz had the most chances on the team with six shots and four on net.
• Heimbach saved one shot and gave up her highest amount of goals in a game with four. Hannah Pufpadd earned the shutout, saving five shots.

NOTES
• Millersville recorded a first-half total of seven shots compared to Gannon's six.
• This is Millersville's highest seed in the conference tournament in program history. Previously, in 2003, the Marauders were the fourth seed.
• The Marauders was called for three offsides.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders will host a conference quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The opponent is still being decided with West Chester's game getting postponed. Times for the match depends on the men's soccer seeding.
