Women’s soccer clinches playoff spot with win over Shippensburg

Shippensburg, Pa. – The 14th-ranked Millersville University women' soccer team used a two-goal outburst early to gain a 3-1 PSAC victory over Shippensburg on Sunday afternoon at David See Field. With the win and with Kutztown's 2-0 win over Indiana (Pa.), Millersville clinched its first PSAC Tournament berth since 2003.

The Marauders earned their 11th win of the season and 10th in conference play, while the Raiders dropped to 6-7-1 (5-7-1 PSAC).

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• Freshman Calista Paolino began the scoring in the 24th minute, speeding through the defense and firing a rocket shot into the top of the goal.
• The Marauders kept the scoring going when Shippensburg was called for a foul 15 yards away from their goal in the 37th minute. Grynkewicz took the free kick in the middle of the box and converted for the second goal.
• Shippensburg found the back of the net off a loose ball scramble in the box. K.K. O'Donnell controlled the ball and scored with 12 minutes remaining.
• Millersville added a third goal when freshman Alexis Spencer scored off an assist from Cassie Blyth in the 81st minute.
• The Marauders avoided a Raider goal in the 29th minute when a pass toward the goal forced goalie Erin Heimbach out of the box. With only Marauder defenders left in in front of the net, Shippensburg's shot was blocked.

HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO QUOTES
• "It is a great accomplishment for the girls and the program to clinch a spot in the conference tournament. I am very happy and proud of all the efforts and all they have given up to get to this point. However, we still have a lot of games to close out the season so we must remain focused on that."
• "Calista Paolino played well again today. She took the space that was there and struck a great ball on frame past the keeper. The goal really helped us lift our level in the first half."
• "[Talia Grynkewicz] played very well again today. She scored off a great free kick. She causes a lot of problems for the opposing teams which creates a lot of opportunities for us in our attack."

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Kay Liebl and Grynkewicz posted four shots each in the first half. Liebl finished the game with a team-high nine shots, and Grynkewicz was two shy of her teammate with seven total and four on net.
• Heimbach stopped five shots and improved her goalkeeping record to 7-2.
• Paolino recorded her first collegiate goal. Spencer found the back of the net for the third time this year, putting her in fourth on the team in points with six.
