Slippery Rock downs No. 14 Millersville in conference tilt, 2-1

Millersville, Pa. – The No. 14 Millersville University women's soccer fell to Slippery Rock 2-1 in a conference match on a windy Friday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

The Marauders' =four-game winning streak was snapped and they dropped to 10-3 overall and 9-3 conference play. The Rock improved to 8-4-2 and 6-4-2 in conference.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
• The Marauders went down a goal in the 32nd minute when they were called for a foul in the box. Slippery Rock's Brooke Testa was awarded a penalty kick and converted for the first goal of the game.
• On a fast break opportunity, freshman Calista Paolino began the attack with a pass from the attacking middle. She sent a pass to sophomore Talia Grynkewicz who sprinted by a defender inside the box and fired a shot that found the high center of the goal in the 36th minute.
• Coming out of halftime, Slippery Rock took the lead when Jordyn Minda fired a shot on the left side which was saved by sophomore defender Chandler Garcia. The ball bounced out to Skye Kramer a few feet away from the goalie. She hit the rebound into the back of the net. 
• The PSAC's leading goal scorer Kay Liebl was not able to convert a goal but had two near opportunities with shots off the post and crossbar.

HEAD COACH MATT PROCOPIO QUOTES
• "Overall, we played well enough to get a result today but unfortunately were unable to get a win. However, we did some good things. We scored a great goal in response to the first goal. I'm happy with how we continued to fight till the end."
• "We were able to create some great chances again today and it's unfortunate that we couldn't find more than one goal, but sometimes that is how things work. I thought we did a good job of creating chances which is positive we can take away from today."
• "Talia's goal was a great finish in response to the penalty kick. Kay created some great chances that helped us in our push to score another goal."
 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
• Grynkewicz scored the lone goal, recording her sixth goal. Paolino assisted in the goal for her first collegiate point.
• Grynkewicz and Liebl both had a team-high nine shots. Grynkewicz put five on net. Grynkewicz and Leisher fired three shots in the first half.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Heimbach stopped two shots compared to The Rock's goalkeeper Kylie Downs who had 11 saves.

NOTES
• Millersville finished with 26 shots.
• The Rock totaled seven fouls in the first half.

UP NEXT
• The Marauders travel to Shippensburg on Sunday, Oct. 14 for a 1 p.m. matchup.
