
Wrestling competes at the David H. Lehman Open

Lancaster, Pa. – The Millersville University wrestling team battled competition from Division I teams in the David H. Lehman Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall University Saturday. Five Marauders recorded two wins.
Senior D.J. Mele (149) advanced to the round of 16 when he beat Chris Martorello of Franklin & Marshall by major decision, 16-3. Mele was defeated by John Locksmith of Navy in a 4-1 loss then moved into the consolation bracket where he received a matchup against his teammate Eric Fuentes (149). Mele took the Ville competition over Fuentes, 6-3. Mele only lasted 1:03 of the fifth round matchup due to injury. Mele moved into double-digits for wins this season with 10.
Redshirt junior Connor Sheehan (125) pinned Mitchell Paton with 32 seconds left to advance into the second round of the consolation bracket where he faced Mike Sminonetti of host Franklin & Marshall that led to a 17-1 technical fall win.
Sophomore Aaron Wildonger recorded his third pin of the season against Brant Leadbeter of Navy in the first round of the 125-pound weight class consolation bracket. In the next round, Wildonger received a 15-10 decision victory over Mike Macklin of Bucknell. Wildonger could not finish his third round match-up due to a medical forfeit.
Fuentes recorded his first career win in a 8-0 major decision victory over Andrew Mauriello of Drexel in the first round of the consolation bracket. Fuentes earned his second win of the day by pinning Aaron Kruk of Harvard University at the 4:38 mark of the match. Fuentes was eliminated by Mele in the fourth consolation round.
Sophomore Evan Morrill went 2-2 in the 184-pound weight class. Morrill triumphed over Brandon Skinner of Campbell University by a 19-8 major decision win to advance to wrestle against Jack Miller of University of Virginia. Morrill captured a 12-6 decision over Miller in the second round of the consolation bracket.
The Marauders return home on Monday, Jan. 8 to wrestle against East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
