
Yackenchick and Ruhnke place at the 15th annual “Shorty” Hitchcock Memorial Classic

Millersville, Pa. – Millersville hosted the 15th annual "Shorty" Hitchcock Memorial Classic Saturday, and redshirt junior 165-pound Shane Ruhnke and senior 285-pound Zachary Yackenchick led the Marauders by placing third and fourth respectively.
Ruhnke went 5-1 on the day. Ruhnke began the day with a 15-11 decision victory over Phillip Spadafora of University of Maryland then advanced to the round of eight. He was pinned by Owen Brown at the 2:17 mark of the bout in the championship bracket. With that loss, Ruhnke moved to the consolation bracket where he went undefeated to place third. Ruhnke claimed two major decision wins. In the consolation quarterfinal, Ruhnke captured a 16-6 win over Josh Goldberg of Navy Prep. Then, Ruhnke recorded his fourth major decision win of the season by earning a 16-7 victory over Max Elling of Columbia University. In the consolation semifinal round, Ruhnke captured two medical forfeits to win third place. Ruhnke finished the day with his 13th win of the season.
Yackenchick posted a 3-2 record on the day for his fourth-place finish. All three wins came by decision. He scored a 5-3 decision over Franklin & Marshall's Parker Fox in his opening match and then topped Kutztown's John Barlow 5-2 to advance to the championship semifinals. There, he lost a 5-0 decision to eventual runner-up Andrew Piehl of Navy. In the consolation bracket, Yackenchick advanced to the third-place match by defeating Alex Esposito of Rutgers, 9-5. In the third-place match, he was pinned at 2:31 by Ben Sullivan.
Redshirt junior Connor Sheehan won two matches and came within a victory of the third-place match. He got pinned at the 4:17 mark of the bout against Ian Timmins of Navy Prep in his opening match of the championship bracket. Sheehan recovered with an 8-2 decision triumph over Nick DeNora of Rutgers in the first round of the consolation bracket. Sheehan received a medical forfeit win over Aaron Burkett of Lehigh University. Sheehan put up a hard fought match in the consolation semifinal round where he was defeated 11-9 against Ryan Hetrick of Army.
Two Millersville regulars—Aaron Wildonger (125) and D.J. Mele (149)—did not compete.
The Marauders return for their final home match of the season on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. It will be senior day for Keegan Worley, Alex Baider, Zachary Yackenchick and Seth Decker.
