Millersville, Pa. -- Freshman
Lauren Lister scored a career-high 23 points in only her second career start as the Millersville Marauders earned an impressive and pivotal 69-48 victory over current PSAC East second-seed East Stroudsburg Wednesday night.
Lister was a force during her 38 minutes on the court as she drove the lane and scored at will. The guard shot 9-16 from the field with all of her points coming in the paint. She paired her nine field goals with five more converted free throws to upend her previous career-high 21 points that she scored against Shepherd University back in November 2017. Lister was all over the court as she matched her career-high seven rebounds and four steals set against District of Columbia and Bloomsburg respectively.
Three more Marauders reached double-figures. Redshirt junior
Kendra Bamberger got back to her scoring ways after a difficult two game stretch with 15 points on 75 percent shooting. The forward scored the second most points in the game while leading the Marauders in field goal percentage. Senior
Alayah Hall continued her streak of double-digit scoring with 12 points of her own in the contest. Hall also added six rebounds and five assists to her stat line. Sophomore
Courtney Dimoff earned her first double-double of her career as she snagged five rebounds in the opening four minutes before finishing with 11 rebounds paired with 10 points.
Besides four Marauders breaching double-figures, the big story of the game was Millersville's defense. The only other time East Stroudsburg was held under 50 points was in a preseason exhibition against Division I Villanova University. Millersville's 21-point win also matched East Stroudsburg's largest loss of the season when the Warriors lost 74-53 to Jefferson University.
The Marauders held the Warriors to a dismal 17-67 shooting from the field including 5-31 from the three point line. Even more impressive, East Stroudsburg senior guard Imani Brown entered Pucillo Gymnasium as the second leading scorer in the conference with 20.3 points per game. By the final buzzer, Brown only had 10 points on 4-14 shooting and 0-5 from the three point line. None of the Warriors could get their offensive game going as Brown lead all East Stroudsburg scorers while no other player breached double-figures.
Millersville was able to get their offense going after a difficult first quarter for both teams and grind down East Stroudsburg as the Warriors continuously missed outside shots. The Marauders outscored the Warriors 42-22 in the paint and 12-2 during fast break sequences. Millersville recovered after shooting 33 percent from the field in the first quarter and finished shooting 44 percent from the field.
The Marauders improved to 9-9 and 6-8 in the PSAC. The team still sits a game behind third-seeded Kutztown University after the Golden Bears dispatched Lock Haven Wednesday evening. Millersville will look to take advantage of their third to last home game of the season as the Marauders host Mansfield on Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. Millersville previously lost a difficult match up at Mansfield 54-60 on Jan. 8, and the team will need a victory against the Mountaineers to both keep pace with Kutztown and put a larger buffer between Millersville and Mansfield.
