Millersville, Pa. - There are 4,200 seconds in a 70 minute regulation field hockey game. In the 4,200 seconds of Millersville's game against Mercyhurst Friday, opportunities arose and were lost, shots were blocked and were saved. There were corners for each side, but no one scored. Then overtime came and within 20 seconds, Millersville had itself a 1-0 victory.
Alexis Gazzio was once again the hero for the Marauders, scoring the game-winning goal for the second-straight game.
Kathleen Bishop gave Gazzio a pass in front of the net, and the transfer sophomore sent it home for her third goal of the season.
It was one of the eight shots Millersville attempted in the game. The Marauders were able to put four of those attempts on goal with
Mallory Wolf,
Kyra Brakefield and
Erica Tarsi joining Gazzio in pressuring the Mercyhurst keeper by forcing her to make a save.
Mercyhurst was able to put up only four shots, and it did not have a single shot on goal.
Kylee Bair got the start for the Marauders at goalkeeper, picking up her second consecutive win. It was also the second-straight shutout for Bair and the Marauders, who have now recorded two shutouts this season.
The win was also the second in the row for Millersville, which was previously coming off a two game losing slide. The Marauders improve to 5-3 (2-1 PSAC). Millersville had defeated Mercyhurst at home by a score of 6-1 earlier this season.
Millersville's short road stint isn't finished. Its next game comes on Tuesday at Kutztown at 7 p.m.
